We just returned from a wonderful and relaxing 5-night cruise on Jewel of the Seas. The Jewel is a beautiful and well maintained ship, the service was mostly excellent and the food was really good. We prefer to eat in the main dining room for all of our meals as it's much more relaxing and quiet. They have introduced a new "salad bar". You select the items and the staff puts them in a bowl, tosses, chops and adds just the right amount of dressing before topping it with your choice of meat: chicken, shrimp, tuna, poscuitto, sliced beef.

Dinners were good and we sometimes selected more than one entre just because they both sounded great. Our waiter was happy to oblige. On the night they served escargot, our table mate got 5 or 6 platefuls and that was his whole dinner. They also brought it again on another night, just for him.

The one disappointing thing was that we had specifically requested a table for 8 so that we could meet some other people and we ended up with only one other couple for the entire cruise! Our waiter told us that there was supposed to be one other couple at our table but they must have decided to eat elsewhere. There were quite a few other tables that were mostly empty as well. I guess it's a bit of a crapshoot, but we have never had this happen before.

Cabin Review

Deluxe Ocean View Stateroom with Balcony

Cabin E1

Good cabin overall. Plenty of storage space in the cabin but it was a bit sparse in the bathroom. It was a bit tight when we were both getting dressed for the evening, but still manageable. The view was good though the floor above blocked the sunlight. Also, we were just a deck or two above the cover over the life boats where the ship was a bit wider so we didn't have a direct view down to the water. Fairly quiet other than an occasional passenger running down the hall. Not far from the Centrum but far enough that the noise was not a problem.
