My wife and I were on the Summit from San Juan from 10/29 to 11/5. We have taken over 40 cruises and Celebrity is generally one of our favorite lines. The Summit, however, was a disappointment. While we've never had a bad cruise, this one would rank at the low end of our experiences. I'll describe the reasons for this, as well as what we liked, in the sections below.
Pre-Cruise
We flew to San Juan two days early and stayed at the Caribe Hilton. We had no problem getting through the airport or finding a taxi. Taxi prices are set. The Hilton is a very nice property on the outskirts of Old San Juan. It is a large hotel with a nice pool and beach area. Bus or taxi is required if you want to go downtown. Our only problem with the hotel was the large convention, supposedly a political party, which had literally taken over the hotel. There were crowds in the lobby and main corridors that made it almost impossible to pass through, let alone enjoy the areas. To make matters worse, the attendees were extremely loud. They were yelling, blowing horns, beating drums, and paying no regard for anyone else trying to enjoy the hotel. We had to call security at least three times to quiet people down outside of our room. The staff was very nice and tried to deal with the obnoxious crowd but this was clearly a management issue. The organizers should have been prohibited from using these areas for these activities. It would have been fine had it been confined to the designated convention space.
This cabin had a very large balcony but it was very hot due to lack of air flow.
