Ship Facts: Explorer of the Seas Review (by Cruise Critic!) | Explorer of the Seas Deck Plans
New England
This was our first cruise with RCCL and we found it to be almost "Excellent".

Our reservation support during initial booking was outstanding, with Airfare, Hotel, transfers and the cruise was arranged effortlessly, however during the final stages, about 3 weeks prior boarding the Airplane to head to Port we found that the Right Hand did not talk to the Left Hand, between departments and within that department. There was a serious issue with being able to issue our Cruise Documents, one department blamed the Air Section, another blamed the Reservations. There was not one "Supervisor" who could make a "Command Decision" and make it work.

The Transfer to the Hotel was painless and the stay that night was pleasant.

The transfer from the Hotel to the Cruise Terminal was also painless with RCCL Staff ensuring a orderly flow of Cruisers boarding the Buses. NOTE: RCCL has the Air/Hotel & transfer(s) down to a science, the best I have experience!

Boarding the Explorer was so simple. It was the "smoothest" and "fastest" boarding we have experienced to date. Also it was the earliest we have been on board, left the Hotel around 11:00, bus ride, TSA, Check-in then on the Ship all by 12:00 noon. NOTE: In the Terminal RCCL had Beverage and Snacks for everyone, the boarding process was so smooth and not rushed that we just walk right by the tables.

The "Explorer" was very clean and so was our room #8111. Our Room Steward was "Outstanding", he was on top of our needs each and every day. I have yet to find out how he knew when we left the room for breakfast to makeup our room. The "Ship's Captain" was very visual and kept us all informed on out travels, this is a first. Most of the time it is the Cruise Director, not this Captain this is his "Boat" and he made everyone feel safe because of his down to earth attitude.

One and only "Complaint" FOOD. Breakfast in the dining room the food was cold. Food in the "Windjammer" always the same and items placed on the islands was cool to cold. Main Dining Dinner, was just OK! Nothing to write home to "MOM" about.

Entertainment, the Ice Show out of this world!! Night Shows very good.

Debarkcation, lack supervision. Management needs to rethink this process, very slow and lack dockside control. You ask a RCCL rep where to meet the bus and she said over there and pointed towards 6 buses which only one was ours. Time (airline departue) was a issue which made this a problem we did arrive with only time to check in and head to the gate.
