Another Transatlantic Trip - Number 7

Sail Date: October 2011
Destination: Transatlantic
Embarkation: Southampton

Having read a mixed bag of reviews on Azura, I was a little aprehensive (more so than normal when travelling down to Southampton). So warts an all what about Azura - Stylish - yes, comfortable yes, layout - confusing - perhaps to those who haven't cruised much before. - Overall a greatfriendly ship.

Boarded at 12:35 -(10 minute wait), cabin available at 14:00, so went up to pool deck, light lunch, couple of drinks, and to the cabin, baggage arrived shortly after 14:30, safety drill at 16:00 sailed 16:30ish.

Down to the detail - space on the ship - loads of it, was able to get seats at all shows with one exception (Manhattan once only), went to the early threatre show - 19:00, then had dinner at 20:30, second fixed seating - great table, thanks to Jacqi and Ric, Rita and Ray, good service from waiters, then 2nd show usually Manhattan or Malibar at 22:30.

Deck space also greatno shortage of sunbeds.

Eating out as it where - Used all three pay More resturants - 17 - Fantastic excellent value for money and service - Oily Smiths - good value for money, food not as and good as 17, service also a little slow. Sindhu - A real quandry - Atul Kocher was on board so went to his demo, and bought the deal, unfortunatey no in the eating - the taste of the food sadly only 5/10, service was excellent - Guess I eat too much Asian food at home.Overall a great trip, everything on average 9/10 except for Subdhu Less

Cabin review: Azura Outside Stateroom P Deck P301

P301 - Outside - Lots of space -bathroom usual standard size - shower no problem ( I am 6' tall and well built (16.5 stone). Wardrobe space excellent - walk in. Main area fine more than adequate space. Overall very pleased. cabin on P Deck one deck below main bar deck, and two below promenade deck - no problems in fact good location.

Port and Shore Excursions

Strolled around St. Johns - recession appears to be hitting Antigua quite hard, a number of the shops closed down. Then off to Jolly Harbour for some beach time - great atmosphere - Good Day

Walked into Bridgetown from Cruise Terminal - took all of 15 minutes - straight route paved all the way. Bridgetown not its usual buoyant self - again recession. Warning - The Duty Free shops in the town are cheaper than those at the airport, so excluding booze buy in town or at the docks.

Slight problem - all shops closed due to Saint Day. Been to Madeira quite a few times, so after walking around the town went off up the hill towards Reids - found an excellent Resturant, and then a pub - deep joy - walked back to the ship around 15:30

Been 4 times before, after visit no1 there is little more to see or do, so strolled around town, wen,t to Cathederal etc, lunch. Duty Free Shops on quay have expanded somewhat, - Fat Tuesdays has arrived no doubt to make our Yankee Cousins feel at home. -With rain clouds and lightening threatening returned on board.

Off to Rodney bayall no problem taxi's all waiting. Stopped on beach outside Royal St Lucian Hotel - better quality of beds. Went to the Beach Bar - left hand side of hotel looking from beach - food good. Returned in afternoon to berth - berthed beside duty free centre. Karaoke Bar local Rum Distillery operated in full swing - Captain had to send crew member to extract wayward passengers at 17:15, sailed on time at 17:30. Another fantastic day in paradise

Decided to do a tour - disaster local animal park plus scenery - scenery bit a total waste, animal park was great although as on outskirts of Philipsburg, could have taken a taxi no problem. The into Philipsburg - shopping all needs catered for - the refreshmentos - all needs catered for - brilliant party atmosphere - then beach. Back to the ship via the water taxi.
