Pleasant Surprise

Sail Date: October 2011
Destination: Western Caribbean
Embarkation: New York (Manhattan)

Our cruise on the MSC Poesia turned out to be one of our best ever. We were concerned about the many negative reviews we had seen prior to sailing, but were pleasantly surprised!
THE FOOD: It's about what you'd expect on any cruise. More Italian and Mediterranean dishes(which was a plus for us). Some items are never seen on other lines. Buffet food could have been warmer. Cruise food is cruise food-and at over 1000 meals per hour,it's very good. MSC was BETTER than I expected on FOOD. Pasta dishes tremendous. Don't miss trying a dining room lunch.
STAFF: They were great! Always seemed happy, no long faces observed. Eager to help and please. No language problems.
ROOM: Maybe a bit smaller than balconies that I am used to, but OK. They need to add some shelving over the TV area for books and things. A few clothes hooks on the wall too. The view in AFT cabin is spectacular.
THE SHIP: Cleanest ship I have ever been on. Space on deck was tight, but never had More trouble getting a space. Daily paper could use more local info on Ports (taxi and beach recommendations for example, like Princess does)
Entertainment- Again, about what you'd expect. Very good. Magician great.
Summary: We really enjoyed the European feel to this cruise. The multiple language messages were infrequent, and not bothersome. We will do MSC again-the next time without the concern about negative reviews. We had a great trip. Less

Cabin review: MSC Poesia Balcony Carducci Deck 10242

Great balcony, very quiet area at rear of ship. Could use a few more storage areas (pack on the light side). Best room location of any cruise ever taken. Convenient to buffet area, and main restaurants. Might be out of the way if you prefer hanging around by the pool area. We loved this room.

Port and Shore Excursions

Not scarey. We took a bus tour off the ship, just enough to get a taste of Cartegena. People are very friendly if you speak just a little spanish. Very pretty city.

We took a local taxi ride to the Guyton Locks at the Canal. Very impressive! Don't miss this.

The water is the whole story in Cozumel. Go to the beach! Split a cab for about $15 round trip per couple to Paradise Beach. $2 entry to a spotless beach resort.

We stayed on the ship-the weather was great and we had been there plenty of times.

Weather was not the best. Not much to see right in town, take a tour in a cab.
