MSC Musica - Great Value for the Money

Sail Date: October 2011
Destination: Europe - Eastern Mediterranean
Embarkation: Venice

Sailed out of Venice on an 8 day Eastern Med cruise. I will not review the ports since I did not take any ship excursions.

Embarkation - average took about 1 hr from dockside to cabin.

Ship - beautiful everything is sparkling

Cabin - just like any other balcony cabin on other lines

Food - lower quality than other lines but not bad.

Breakfast in the cafeteria, no omelet station, no smoked salmon, juices bad, coffee pretty bad. They will not toast a slice of bad for you, you have to eat the pre-toasted cold hard white bread. Oftenran out of coffee and milk at the coffee station.

On the other hand breakfast in the MDR is great. Toast, omelet to order, smoked salmon, cheeses, all kind of baked goods available. Always foun a table. Coffee still not great.

Lunch - adequate in the cafeteria, pretty good in the dining room.

Supper - ate only in the MDR having been seated with excellent companions, a couple from Ontario and one More from New Jersey.

Food is good but the choice is definitely less than other lines. Steak was available only once, no lobster at all. If you like Italian food than you'll enjoy the meals. Portions are small but with 6 courses it's more than enough. Plus you can ask for seconds if you wish.

We received coupons for 1 bottled water foor each night. Salad dressing is terrible but when we asked for 1000 Islands dressing they made it for us especially.

There is an afternoon tea but the extras that other lines have such as a poolside grill or an afternoon sushi station or a 24 hr snack bar are just not there.

By the way I hated the pizza they were serving for kunch.

Service - excellent everywhere (cabin, dining room and front desk)

Entertainment - Lavish theater shows with seats always available, but they only last 30 minutes. Lot of misic venues at night but the quality is somewhat lower than other lines.

Activities - not much but that may be due do the different languages

Debarkation - sitting for about 75 min. in the theater waiting for our color to be called, comfortable but too long.

Other observations:

The ship had some long-lasting vibrations in several locations which I never experienced before. This was annoying.

People were not particularly rude, basically same as other lines. Lot of kids but mostly well behaved. Lot of people on the ship but we never felt crowded.

Laundry is a bargain 30 pieces wash and iron for 20E and you don't have to send all 30 pieces at the same time.

Hairdresser is a ripoff. advertising wash and set for 22E, they charged my wife an extra 10E for supplies without telling her before.

Cocktails are expensive $10- including tip but very good. House wines are excellent value at 7E for 0.5 liter.

All in all, a good cruise, excellent ports, great value considering that we paid less than $70- for a balcony cabin.

Dollar for dollar the American lines are better but if I can get MSC at least 25-30% less for a similar cruise I would take it again. Less
