Not as luxury as I would have thought.

Sail Date: October 2011
Destination: Eastern Caribbean
Embarkation: Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)

I am not saying we didn't have a fantastic time because we did. Partly because we were out of the usual age group the entertainment provided didn't quite suit our tastes, although the magician was pretty impressive.

Our room was nice, though smaller than expected. Having the balcony was a plus but not being able to prop the door open was a downer. Though we were out of our age group we met some nice people at the poker table and enjoyed ourselves on the ship as well as off. The food was pretty good, although there were a few things that dissapointed (fatty short ribs, unreliable beef temperatures), generally the food was quite good. The service was excellent all over the ship, but we felt like it was stretched a little thin for a full ship (took awhile for our rooms to be serviced in the mornings, etc).

All in all it was a very nice time, but I don't think we'd pay for H.A. again. The service on Carnival was just as good, the food almost as good and who cares More about the room? For us it's all about the ports. Less

Cabin review: Eurodam Deluxe Verandah Oceanview Upper Promenade

Whoever takes the online photos should be given an award for making small spaces look huge! Don't get me wrong it was a nice enough room with okay space for a cruise ship, but from the descriptions I expected more. Kind of the theme of our Holland America trip. Not worth the extra money.

Port and Shore Excursions

The excursion is a waste of money. Grab a cab from the port and for 5 bucks a person take a ride to Magens Bay, for 4 bucks a person you get on the beach. It is beatiful and well worth it. Then grab a cab to wherever you would like! We went through the Blackbeards thing which was kind of nice but not all that interesting outside of a couple of period houses which were pretty neat. We got picked up by a friend who lives on the island and drove us over to Red Hook which was a very neat little harbor area. Grab a cab and head over there to escape the tourist trap shopping area.

San Juan was amazing. We spent the day walking all over the Old San Juan area of the city and loved every foot of it. The food is incredible, get some empanadillas and some mofungo and you will not regret a second of it. Grab a nice rum/lime drink (doesn't have to be a mojito) and just relax and enjoy the vibe of the old city!
