Beautiful Fall Cruise

Sail Date: October 2011
Destination: Canada & New England
Embarkation: New York (Manhattan)

Since we live in PA, we took a limo to New York and started the cruise off in style. We had a mini-suite with balcony and was very impressed with the room. It was bright, airy and large. Our steward was excellent and could not do enough for us as was true of all the staff on board. We read other reviews before we sailed and some made us a little apprehensive about taking a cruise. Those people with complaints must be very hard to please as we found everything to our liking on this ship.

We are not big foodie people so we ate at off times and used mainly the Horizon Buffet and the International Cafe. When we were in port, we tried some of the local restaurants especially those serving good New England chowder. We never once sat with other people, there was always a table and, of course, since the weather was so mild, we choose sometimes to eat out near the pool area.

We also did not do the "shows" so we do not know how crowded they were. We liked to sit at the More International Cafe at night and listen to whatever entertainment they had to offer. They had a piano player, Dixieland band, a singing group from one of the shows, etc. This area again was never crowded as reported by other reviews on previous trips.

We are casino people and found this to be a fun way to spend a few hours. Once again, this was not crowded but a little smokey. They did have one night that was smoke free and that was great.

Our goal was to have a relaxing time and to just get away from everyday pressure and this cruise fulfilled all that and more. We are looking forward to another cruise next year. Less

Cabin review: Caribbean Princess Mini-Suite with Balcony Dolphin d321

Our cabin was a great surprise. Plenty of room, large bed very comfortable, two TVs (showed NFL football, my husband was ecstatic). Our balcony was a plus that we loved and our steward kept everything neat and clean and was always attentive. Room was quiet except on two nights with rough seas, we could hear the stabilizers running but not annoying.

Port and Shore Excursions

We absolutely loved this port. Wished we were docked here for an additional day. Beautiful and true New England. It's a shame the leaves were not as brilliant as other years but still a picture postcard. The lobster bisque is not to be missed.

The markets were O.K. but usual New England type shops. The weather was mild but very windy so walking the Freedom Trail or walking anywhere in Boston presented a problem. Also, since we are from Philadelphia, we were disappointed in the historic points of Boston - not near as nice as Philly. There was an excursion trip to Salem and that is a really interesting city, we would highly suggest that one.

Because of weather, this port was missed and replaced with Portland, ME. Good choice. We are assuming Halifax is as dismal as St. John's and we did not need to see it.

We suggest that you purchases an excursion in Newport especially one that includes touring the mansions and Cliff Walk.

We could have missed this port and we would not have been sorry. Very depressed looking area with no redeeming qualities. We feel that the cruise should be kept in the USA and along the New England coast. There are many other ports especially in Maine and Mass that people would have enjoyed.
