Great Cruise Surpassed my expections

Sail Date: September 2011
Destination: Western Caribbean
Embarkation: Miami

We were on this ship september 10 to the 17th 2011, and had a great time. This was my first cruise ever, my wife was on one as a child. We were very nervous being my first time and our biggest vacation we have ever booked.

The Carnival crusie line did an excellent jobf moving things along and embarking on our journey. We went out of Miami and check in and boarding went smooth. The ship itself was very nice and clean, even with almost 3000 people on board we never really felt cramped or crowded. The only time that was is when we first boarded and everyone went to the lido deck because rooms weren't ready yet.

The staff throughout the ship was helpful and friendly. Our stewart, can't remember his name but he did the riviera deck during this trip. He was great, always smiling, referred to us by name always followed through on requests. The entertainment and activities were good, though the schedule was so packed everyday it was difficult to keep track of what More is going on where, we often missed things. We found it better to carry the flyer with us and go with the flow, if we came upon something good we went to it, if not oh well.

The food was good, though the mongolian grill was very busy most times. The only shock was the prices of soda and alcohol. The prices were typical of going to a sporting event or concert $2 soda and 7.50 alcohol, butthen they add 15% gratuity o all drinks so it got expensive if you weren't careful.

The comedians on the first half were disappointing, they seemed unprepared and tried to wing it but not well. The second half ones, J Lewis and, can't reember the other, were very good. Shows were fun and there was always soething to do. It was a great experience in that if you are busy body like me, there is always something going, or if you want to relax and read / people watch you can do that too, there were plenty of places quiet or busy you could find.

Highly recommend this ship and cruise line. Less

Cabin review: Carnival Liberty Oceanview Riviera 1428

Our cabin was on deck 1 riviera deck and was very nice. it was quiet to sleep and the beds were comfy. The rooms are not made to spend a day in, kind of cramped with only 1 couch, but who spends the day there anyways? We had no problems with engine or crowd noise. the only time we heard the engines were late at night when the were pushing her towards port. we had an ocean view, highly recommended, the inside rooms looked small and dark.

Port and Shore Excursions

This was by far our favorite port, it just had the tropical atmosphere that made you realize how far from home we were, in a good way. The only downside was we wish we had more time here. we did the snorkeling on the ship wreck kittyhwk and the reefs. it was one of the best experiences in life. the staff were very helpful and comforting, the sights were amazing and we have 45 min on each site so plenty of time. We only had like 1 1/2 hrs to shop after our excursion which was disappointing. Also we ate at hard rock cafe and food was good but with the exchange rate it was $50 for us and we just had burgers and fries. very enjoyable port

The dunn rivers fall was breathtaking, it eas the best excursion and part of our entire cruise. Highly recommend it to anyone who goes here. the trip was fun climbing the falls, dunking in natural pools and on slides. the tour guide up the falls was helpful and friendly. the videotaper was funny with jokes and songs to hype people up. One thing, you will get SOAKED so put everything in lockers or leave on ship. they have locker for $8, but they're small. We had no idcea how wet you reslly get until we started, it is not just walking up the falls and waist down wet, you are all wet. Afterwards you exit the falls back into a park town like place, this is where the port turned downwards quickly. The people were EXTREMELY PUSHY and sometimes rude, they would hand you something then want money for it, or you have multiple people trying to pull you towards their shops. if you tried to nicely decline they would follow you and continue to pushy you to buy. we finally said we had to get back to the ship and went straight to the bus. others on the trip reported the same experience. Everyone wants a tip or to sell you stuff, on the falls we had to tip the guide, videotaper, camera holder, and videotaape seller after the trip. HIGHLY recommend bringing lots of dollar bills. We went to dolphin cove then, kind of a waste, basically there was a small pond with sharks and dolphins or you could walk around the woods and shops. again very pushy, you want to hold an iguana or bird? it will cost you. even back t port leaving for the ship people were coming up shoving stuff at you and trying to make a sale.

Cozumel was a very nice port where we came in, it was ropical and very scenic. It had just rained hard so it was slick in the stores but people were friendly and not pushy. We ate at Ponchos backyard grill, highly recommend, great food and resonable prices. Mostly the port had many types of shops and food. We Everything is in pesos so you have to watch what the cost really is. many places in port has it on receipt the exchange rate, but downtown didn't. we hose to walk back to port and sightsee, VERY long walk, it was about 3 miles and with the heast felt like 10 miles. Overall an enjoyable place with warm friendly people.
