Ship Facts: Viking Danube Review (by Cruise Critic!) | Viking Danube Deck Plans
Romantic Danube in the Fall
Day 1: Arrived in Nuremberg in the late morning and the Viking rep was waiting for the flight. When we arrived at the ship embarkation went very smoothly and we were informed that the cabin would not be available until later in the afternoon but that a light lunch was available in the lounge and that the bus would take anyone who desired into Nuremberg for sightseeing on your own. The lunch was perfect and we opted to go into Nuremberg to walk around and what a great Saturday afternoon walking around the farmers market and the historic downtown area.

Day 2:The next morning we had an excellent bus and walking tour of Nuremberg.

The evening was spent cruising and was very pleasant. My wife spent the early morning with a dedicated group of exercisers doing aerobics with one of the cruise directors.(She did this every morning)

Day 3: The morning tour was a superb walking tour of Regensburg. There was enough time at the end to do some walking around, shopping and finding a local restaurant for lunch.I highly recommend the optional tour to Kelheim to visit Weltenburg Abbey and cruise through the Danube Gorge.

Day 4: The next day was Passau, again a great walking tour with an excellent local guide. The afternoon was ours to spend walking and sightseeing. The next morning we visited Melk the Benedictine Abbey and the local street market, again everything went smoothly and was very informative. We arrived in Vienna early in the evening and opted to spend the evening walking the Ringstrasse and finding an excellent Viennese coffeehouse.

Day 5: The next morning we did the "roughing it" tour of Vienna which involved taking the U-Bahn and walking with a local guide through the sight in the center of Vienna. This was a lot more personal and very informative. That afternoon after lunch at a delightful restaurant we took the U-Bahn to Schonbrunn Palace and did the Palace and grounds tour on our own. I would highly recommend this option instead of the offered optional tour to Schonbrunn, since we had most of the afternoon and had a great adventure.

Day 6: Spent the day cruising and arrived in Budapest in the late afternoon.

Day 7: Roughing-it tour of Budapest, walking, public bus, trolley through Buda and Pest. What a great way to explore the city! That afternoon we took the tour to Szentendre, an old town filled with great shops and artisans.

Day 8: After breakfast on the ship depart for Budapest airport and our flight home.

Throughout the cruise we were treated extremely well by the staff on the Viking Danube. The meals were superb and provided excellent variety every evening.
