Ship Facts: Celebrity Silhouette Review (by Cruise Critic!) | Celebrity Silhouette Deck Plans
Has the Glitz but not the Substance
The Ship:

There have been ample reviews about the decor of the ship and I admit its impressive, with some wonderful artwork. The cabins are lovely, about the best we have seen apart from no light on the balcony, great beds and bedding no problems there at all. The decor throughout is wonderful, glorious artwork and overall very well planned out and compared to other ships quite soundproofed cabins.

The Food:

Sadly disappointing, found the food on our Spring Cruise to the Fjords on P&O Azura far superior. Why - to use an old English phase I found it to be "all fur coat but no knickers" basically showy on the surface but lacking substance. Looked good but lacked flavour, maybe its different tastes but the Lobster on one of the formal nights was ruined by MUSHY risotto, I complained and was told that's the American style. Good meats were ruined by frying, coating in crumbs or floating in sauces of nondescript flavours and I have never seen such an obsession with serving things with mashed potato. The deserts were all the same over sweet and over creamy and no real flavour. The highlight however was Murano, the best on sea dining experience we have experienced, excellent food and wonderful service. As for the coffee - the only way to get a coffee with oomph was to get a double shot speciality coffee, it was worse than dishwater!Be warned the drinks from the dispenser are supercharged super sweet concentrate and will give you a blood sugar rush for the day. One of the staff told me they make them up so sweet to make people not use them as an alternative to purchasing drinks - tip dilute half and half and they are passable.

Entertainment:

Average - The theatres on P&O's biggest ships (3000+passengers) have stages with more space and more electrics and the entertainment troupes are far superior. The dancers on board Silhouette had bad timing issues and sloppy choreography however a live band was a bonus. As for the cruise director - if he was supposed to bring Las Vegas to the stage then Im glad Ive never been to Vegas he made me ashamed to be British he is arrogant, overbearing and too loud.

Itinerary:

Great - the private tours we booked were value for money. Ephesus Shuttle in Turkey and our group had arranged the services of Moti Bar Tov in Israel (http://en.travel-israel.info/aboutmoti/). Tours that were half the price of Celebrity's with more character and time and full of info. The 2 ships tours in Cyprus and Naples were somewhat time wasting and a push and shove experience with people who moaned about everything - 2 American ladies even commented that "Disabled People should not be allowed on ships tours" because the poor gent took some time getting up the steps, disgraceful!

Staff: 90% wonderful 10% Lacking.

Please please ban the Italians from the buffets - there were a few bugs going round the ship and coughs and colds everywhere. The Italians seemed to ignore the gel at the restaurant entrances and never covered their mouths when coughing and spluttering all over the buffet the worst hygiene I have ever seen on board, so no wonder there were so many ill. In fact to be honest it was the manners, noise and pushing and shoving from this group that spoiled a lot of the time on board ship as they seemed to think they were No 1.

An experience, a lovely ship but 5 star no but then if we all thought the same it would be a very dull world wouldn't it.
