This is just a summary of the things we did on our 12 night Celebrity Solstice Med Cruise. I got so much valuable information to plan our trip from this site that I thought maybe the things we did could help others in their planning process.

We flew into Barcelona on Thursday before the cruise on Saturday. We arrived in Barcelona late afternoon and took the Aerobus to Plaza Catalunya for 5.50 Euros each. We stayed at the Continental Hotel Barcelona which was about a block from the bus stop. We walked to our right across the plaza to Las Ramblas and went left for about a half block and there was our hotel. This hotel is quaint, not your American hotel, but clean and the balcony over Las Ramblas was nice to people watch. We were quite tired after our long flight so we got checked in and then went out to walk down Las Ramblas. We ate at the Italian restaurant across the street from the hotel, which was very good. The next morning we went back to the bus stop at Plaza Catalunya and boarded the hop-on hop-off bus (Touristic) and went on all the routes except for the beach route. We got off and had lunch and got back on to make the complete circle. It was a great way to see Barcelona in a short time, and actually listen to a language-choice audio description of city highlights using complimentary small blue ear buds which plugged into the seats.

Saturday morning we had a light breakfast and went shopping for some diet colas and wine to take on board with us and then we took a taxi to the ship. The cost from the hotel to the cruise ship was 20 Euro including tip. It was not too far but their was a lot of traffic and not walkable. There is no other good way to there but a taxi. The embarkation was a breeze and we were on the ship within 30 minutes. This was about noon and our cabin was ready so we put our carry-ons in the room and went to the buffet to have lunch. The food in the buffet is very good with a great selection for both lunch and breakfast. We found that we enjoyed having breakfast in the dining room to avoid the crowds in the buffet (just because we like to wake up before bumping into people). Lunch was good and we even ate one evening meal there since we had a large lunch on a tour. The ship is beautiful and easy to get around. The main dining room meals were wonderful so we didnt go to any of the specialty restaurants. The Staff are all excellent, friendly, helpful and happy. They make your cruise very enjoyable.

Cabin Review

We were in cabin 6183. It is a balcony with an obstructed view. You cannot see down but you can see out to the sea. We got a good price for this cabin so the inconvenience was worth it. Be careful of the balcony door handle. It does not stay in lock down position to open. It springs back up and my husband's index finger was caught between the handle and the center door post, cutting it and requiring several stitches. The arrangement of the cabin is good and the bath is large and the shower enclosure is so much nicer than a curtain.
