My sister and I cruised on the NCL Sky last year (her very first cruise)so decided to go again this year, picking up an extra night this time. We very much liked our room location - 5010 - as it was just around the corner from the main hub of elevators and guest services and just a skip to the Palace Dining Room. It was very easy to find our way around from this central location. We love the Sky - the layout is easy to navigate and the decor is light and airy. Everything was clean, and the service was great.
We sailed only 2 weeks after hurricane Irene hit the East Coast, but were very pleased that we made all our ports of call. Our itinerary had two ports of call switched to accommodate another NCL ship - no problem.
We opted to roll our luggage on ourselves this time. It was so easy! We rolled right to the dining room, sat down and had a wonderful leisurely lunch - by 2:00 our room was ready so we wheeled our luggage inside and were ready to sail! The other passengers started getting their luggage around 6:00, so either way works great.
We particularly enjoy eating our meals in the dining room - we have yet to try the specialty restaurants - there are so many wonderful choices in the already-paid-for dining room.
We caught two of the evening shows - very entertaining singers and dancers. We attended the White Hot party on deck which was energetic as usual.
The only thing that bummed us at all was on the private island, Great Stirrup Cay. There are renovations going on, which is good, but we decided to treat ourselves to a clam shell cabana for the day since the weather was so very hot. Unfortunately, this did not work out well. All the clam-shells are at the far end of the beach, about 10 rows deep, and right beside the construction. So there was no breeze, no view of the beach, and the constant sound of the machinery. HOWEVER when we asked for a refund, it was given with no questions asked! It would be better if the clam-shells were on the back row stretched all the way across the beach - that would give everyone a view and a breeze. We found a nice shady area on the OTHER end of the beach - if you're facing the beach, head to your left, walk along the paved sidewalk area, and at the end there is another smaller beach with a shady spot. The picnic tables closest to the cookout building are now all under new solid shade large gazebos - I think when the renovations are complete it will be very nice!
OH - I saw one young lady take a large insulated cup to the bar area and ask to have it filled with ice - it was filled without question - so don't hesitate to ask for ice. If you're expecting hot weather, one of those small misting fan sprayers might be helpful.
