We were booked on a 7 night cruise form Bayonne but this was delayed because of hurricane Irene. Celebrity gave us very little information and we did not know until the first evening of our cruise how we could be compensated - was $300 per stateroom (concierge class), we believe different classes received differing compensation awards. However, this did not cover our expenses for hotel and food that we had to shell out for, or give us any compensation for a day's loss of holiday. It appears that Celebrity only compensated US citizens adequately who did not have the extra expense International clients had incurred. Obviously, the hurricane was out of Celebrity's control, but I am sure this is something that regularly occurs during hurricane season and is something that Celebrity should address. The staff on board had not authority to comment or do address our complaints.

The ship was worn and lacking leisure facilities, the gym was small with a few machines but was spotless, the hydrotherapy pool was a gem, especially as it was so cold. Summit is due to be refurbished later this year, and was very clean. Our room attendant was very good, as were the dining room staff. The buffet lacked imagination and it seems that Celebrity are trying to put people off from eating there in the evenings with their small selection of food which was somewhat disappointing.

We went all over the island, and would not recommend St George's as there's only a couple of shops, but is probably good if you are interested in history.

Weather was dire in Bermuda, for those that are looking for a 'summer holiday', do not expect wall to wall sunshine in Bermuda it is always quite stormy. Beaches are not as good as in the Caribbean, and the island itself doesn't have much going on, very few shops. The evening street party was cancelled which was understandable but disappointing. On the good side, the transport system is good - in particular the ferries, although they need to run later than 8pm. The buses take a year and a day so do expect to get anywhere in a hurry, but they do run later if you miss the last ferry.

We would not return to Bermuda as there isn't enough to do, especially if the weather is not usually hot, hot, hot, but is was a pretty island and the people were friendly.

We travelled all over Bermuda as it is easy to get around, but comment on Hamilton & St Georges. Hamilton is a pretty small city, very few shops but has a couple of chain stores, internet cafe and a undercover shopping centre. Unfortunately, you can get around the shops in about an hour and is not like the Caribbean islands i.e. lack of jewellery stores.

St Georges had very few shops and we discovered when we came off the ferry - very dissapointing. We had gone there to reach the Blue Hole watersports at the Grotto Bay hotel, we had intended to take out the boat but as the weather was not beach weather and the boats were not as expected, not powerful motors etc we did not take one out. The grotto bay hotel looked appealing though.

Overall Bermuda was very clean, the people were helpful and friendly but we were dissapointed that there wasn't very much to do on the island and as we wanted to see the night time on an island and the ferries stopped running early this prevented us from doing this without spending a fortune on taxi journeys.
