My girlfriend and I just got off of the Celebrity Summit on Sunday after a 7 night cruise to Bermuda.
We had both only been on one cruise before, and neither had used Celebrity.
I will try to go into as much detail as I can to describe what we both agreed was an absolutely PERFECT vacation.
We left from Bayonne on Sunday, Aug 14th. We arrived at the ship by car at around 2:00 pm. We had decided to park at the Ship yard and leave the car for a week. The price was $133.00 for the week. I thought it was reasonable.
We were picked up by a young lady in a mini van and driven across the parking lot to check in. The entire check in process was very simple. We went right through the line and were on the ship in no time.
As we boarded. We were handed a glass of Champagne and felt right away like we were going to be well taken care of. Little did we know how AMAZING the pampering was going to be.
We started by heading up to the 10th deck, where they serve the Breakfast and Lunch Buffet on a daily basis, have unlimited coffee 24 hours, and pizza, sandwiches, etc. until the wee hours of the evening.
Right off the bat, we were impressed by the quality, quantity and variety of the food. In fact, as the week went on, we would discover different food stations that we were not even aware of. The Buffet literally went around the entire ship.
We were told at around 3 pm that our room was ready, and although we had heard that our luggage may not arrive until early to mid evening, we were shocked that all of our bags were already there when we go to our room.
Our room number was 3089. We were mid ship, in an inside state room. We were both prepared for the room to be a shoebox but were not that concerned because we figured we would not be spending too much time in the room.
To our surprise, the room was small, but comfortable. There was enough closet and draw space to fit all of our cloths, despite the fact that we packed enough for a 45 day cruise!!!
The Bathroom was fine. Shower hot EVERY TIME we used it, and the water pressure was excellent.
We explored the ship for a while, and went up to the 11th deck for the bon voyage. It was really nice. The rain was coming down, but the mood was as festive as you could imagine.
We had the 6:00 dinner seating. We had requested a table for 2. Just a note that unless requested, you WILL be put at a table with other people. We wanted the dinners to be a little more intimate, so we went with that option.
I will say that from the FIRST appetizer, to the final dessert, the food on this ship was SECOND TO NONE. OMG. We bragged all week that no matter what we ate, it was one meal better then the last. In fact, it was not only the dinner. The Breakfast, the Lunches, the grill at the pool where they grill hamburgers and hot dogs every day. I could not come up with ONE SINGLE complaint about anything I ate. Along With the food, the service was just not to be believed. From our Waitress Dee, to our Waiter Sercan, to the wine Stewart Antonio, to our cabin guy Peterson. They were ALL amazing. We wanted to take them all home with us!!!!
The entertainment on the ship...WOW...Broadway Caliber. We were at EVERY show.
The singing, dancing, Russian couple who did cirque du soleil during the shows. Just amazing. They also had a Female Impressionist who also had a fabulous voice in her own right. Her name is Karen Grainger. From Canada. Had never heard of her before, but she was very, very impressive. The Comedian, Louis Johnson. Again someone we had never heard of. HYSTERICAL. We saw both of his shows also.
The Cruise Director, Damion, seemed like he was MADE to be a cruise director. Funny, pleasant, always visible, involved with ALL of the shows and activities. There were also Manuel and Jennie. They were involved with the different activities and were as outgoing and friendly as you are ever going to find.
As for the Ship itself, although they are soon going to be refurbishing the Summit, we found it to be extremely clean. Impeccable actually. And in very good shape.
We did not have the greatest week of weather but it hardly mattered. There was so much to do on the ship that we were busy all week long.
Bermuda was beautiful. We hit 2 of the beaches. Horse Shoe Bay, and Snorkel Bay. We also went on a Snorkeling trip to Devils Isle. That was REALLY amazing.
Leaving the ship in Bayonne was as easy and pain free as boarding. We were assigned an 8:20 debarkation time and were off at that EXACT time.
I can write, and write, and write. It was truly an amazing week. We are going back next summer, and the next 25 summers after!! No reason to go ANYWHERE except back to the Celebrity Summit. It's our new yearly vacation spot!!!!!
