What a wonderful first cruise

Sail Date: August 2011
Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean
Embarkation: Southampton

We embarked from southampton after using eavesway travel coach from birmingham. after leaving our bags on the coach we didnt see them again until they appeared in our cabin.

Embarkation was so fast it took about 20 minutes and was so eficient.

The ship was beautiful, very clean and luxurious, I was unsure what to expect as other reveiws had mentioned rust and scruffy cabins.

There was no rust and our cabin was imaculate, not a mark to be seen anywhere.

Our cabin steward julio was fantastic and nothing was too much trouble for him, he bought us extra clothes hangers and our cabin was cleaned twice a day.

The food was amazing, we opted for traditional dining at the 6pm sitting and were sat on a table for 8 with some lovely couples. Our waiters were great and once again nothing was too much trouble. if i left any of my meal they offered to bring me another dish instead. The menu was varied and all very yummy. the cheesecake was my favorite More desert. there was lots of beef available which was cooked perfectly every time.

The horizon court buffet was excellent with endless choice and the most delicious deserts and cakes i have ever tasted. Someone on another review said the cakes were all the same ??? he must have been on a different ship !

We were early risers and so had no problem getting a sun lounger but there was the usual problem with people abandoning their beds for ages. Deck hands placed notices on beds left for longer than 30 mins and they would then remove items from the beds. This was a great idea.

We enjoyed all ports except cadiz which was not great, we got lost as all the streets are very narrow and all look the same.

Rome was the most gorgeous place i have ever been to in my life, we loved it and shal return.

Shore excursions were fantastic and run like a military operation, very efficient and well worth the money paid.

I visited the medical center whilst on board, the doctor was fantastic and the bill was very reasonable, 60 dollars plus 6 dollars for a prescription. State of the art equipment and once again very efficient.

Entertainment was good but mostly just singers and dancers,(very good they were too ) we saw a ventrilaquist who was so funny that i cried with laughter.

Disembarkation was quick and easy and I can honestly say i did not want to leave. Less

Cabin review: Grand Princess Interior Double Baja Deck B533

fantastic cabin.Great location.

Port and Shore Excursions

rome is beautiful, around every corner is something more lovely. Be careful crossing roads as the traffic is mad. Piazza narvona is a gorgeous place to sit and have a drink, although quite expensive. St peters square is simply stunning as is the collosseum. We did the rome on your own trip which was great, plenty of time for seeing the sights.
