Fun family Cruise

Sail Date: August 2011
Destination: Western Caribbean
Embarkation: New Orleans

This was my fourth cruise with Carnival, but first on the Triumph, and I have to say it was great!

We arrived at the port a little early around 10:30, so when we finished checking our luggage and getting checked in (which went pretty smooth), we did have to wait about an hour to actually board the ship around noon, must have had some stragglers getting off the previous cruise.

Once on board we made our way to the Lido and found the buffet, usual buffet fare, it was ok. About an hour later our room was ready (1:30) and surprisingly our luggage arrived a few minutes later! So I went ahead and unpacked to get it over with and headed out to see what was going on around the ship. We explored for awhile and got ready to see the ship off before getting ready for dinner, when the ship didn't leave at the usual time around 4:30, we assumed maybe they were waiting on late arrivals or something, but soon found out there were mechanical problems with the propulsion system and More they were working to get it going, so we got ready and went to dinner.......kinda weird having dinner and seeing the port of New Orleans still out of the window! There were a lot of discussion at dinner about how it would affect excursions in Progreso, there was to be a letter sent to the room the next day explaining options. Turns out they made up most of the time (we didn't leave N.O. until after 9pm) but made it to Progreso only 1 hour late! They adjusted the excursion times by 1 hour and stayed 1 hour later in Progreso so no one missed out, couldn't believe it! Way to go, Captain!

Enjoyed more of the ship on the last couple of nights and loved all the crew that took care of us along the way! If you have a chance visit the California wine Bar and chat with Lucia, she is awesome, we did the Mini Martini tasting, tried all 8 flavors, it was great!

Other favorites were Karaoke in the Club Rio, Cruise Director "Tex", Pizza at crazy hours of the night (liked the Caesar salad too), ice cream cones on Lido while watching movies on the big screen outside! Really enjoyed the Fun Farewell party on the last night, maybe a little too much ;) (free drinks!)

Loved dinner in the Main dining room each night, great service and great food, never a complaint from us, it was all great!

So to sum it up, we had a great time and enjoyed all the Triumph had to offer, met and talked to the Captain Angelo Los, and CD "Tex", two very nice people! Less

Cabin review: Carnival Triumph Balcony Verandah 8260

First time in a balcony room and loved it, the only problem was that we got a trundle instead of a roll-away and my son is 6'4 so it was too small, but the cabin steward placed an extension that seemed to work well, will try to get roll-away next time. We were very close to the elevators but didn't hear too much noise as expected, nice surprise.

Port and Shore Excursions

In Cozumel we did the Discover Mexico/Chankanaab Park excursion, it was very informative at Discover Mexico, 1/25th scale replicas of major points of interest in Mexico, including the Mayan ruins, Aztec ruins, the Capital Mexico City, etc. very cool guide that was extremely knowledgeable of his culture. Took a taxi to Chankanaab park and just hung out at the beach, but you could do water activities such as snorkeling (extra), swimming with dolphins(extra), etc. There was also a restaurant on site, but we waited to eat on the ship. It was getting late and we wanted to hit a few shops on the way back to the ship, so we left, but on the way out we went through the botanical gardens, which were beautiful and saw some of the wildlife along the way, including an alligator on the trail, which we went around and some iguanas.

We opted to just get off at the port in Progreso and looked around at the shops there, but it was so HOT we didn't last too long! I had been to Progreso before and preferred not to do an excursion or go to downtown, wasn't impressed with it before.
