It surpassed all of our expectations.

Sail Date: August 2011
Destination: Alaska
Embarkation: Vancouver

We did not really want to go on a cruise and didn't think it would suit us but did want to 'do' the Inside Passage so decided to go for it. It was brilliant. We could not fault the service or food and enjoyed the evening entertainments. What made it particularly good for us was the knowlege and interest of the captain who kept us fully informed at all times about bears, whales and seals etc. His enthusiasm for the area was definitely infectious.

We can't compare it to other cruises because it was our first but the size of ship certain;y suited us. The Indonesian crew were so friendly and although they worked extremely hard seemed to enjoy themselves. The Filipino kitchen staff were not seen but the food they produced was outstanding.

The only negative thing I could say would be concerning the cost of the shore excursions. we managed to get the same excursions for up to half the price by booking ahead with local agencies. Less

Cabin review: Volendam Large Oceanview Stateroom Dolphin 1824

Better than we expected. lots of storage space. Hairdryer gets very hot and needs to be held with a towel after a while.

Port and Shore Excursions

We booked a whale watch and trip to Mendenhall Glacier through Juneau Tours. can't recommed it highly enough. he watched hump backs bubble feeding and at mendenhall watched a bear take and eat a sockeye salmon. Superb. The town is full of jewellery shops though and that wasn't what we wanted so we gave it a wide berth.

Town, especially around Creek Street is interesting and quite scenic. We enjoyed the museum. However again full of jewellery shops.

We rented a car from Sourdough Car Hire and had a brilliant day. We visited all of the town sites and Dyea and then drove the 80 miles or so to Carcross in the Yukon. Certainly worth doing and the views were breathtaking. Total cost for 2 including petrol was about 65. The town iteslf is quite scenic in a 'wild west' kind of way but again full of jewellery shops.
