Wonderful First Cruise experience

Sail Date: August 2011
Destination: Western Caribbean
Embarkation: New Orleans

My husband and I took this cruise to celebrate our 20th Wedding anniversary. We were absolutely hooked by the first day! Carnival really knows what they are doing and everything from embarkation to debarkation was simply wonderful! We were treated like royalty by our cabin steward and he took such excellent care of us and any need that arose--our room was bigger than we thought it would be as was the bathroom-and we are plus sized travelers and had plenty of room.

Food was wonderful! There was always something to do and the shows were terrific. As you can tell, we were very happy with our experience overall.

The only small thing I would say was that the review and purchase of pictures was the only thing we had issue with. It was so crowded and hard to look through to find our pictures because everyone else was trying to do the same thing at the same time. Some of the posed shots they put up on display and it was easier to find, but the port shots were just in bins More and they were impossible to weed through with the amount of people looking through. We would have probably purchased more if we could have found ours.

Also, the one thing we wanted to do was attend some of the comedy acts, but it was in a smaller room and it was packed--we were never able to find a seat. But--those were 2 very minor bumps in what was an outstanding and relaxing cruise. And we met the best dining companions ever!!! Less

Cabin review: Carnival Triumph Balcony Verandah 8304

great location, room nice sized--plenty of storage space and the bathroom was pleasantly bigger than either my husband or I were expecting. Was nice because you could hear music from the pool which was right above at times when we were sitting on the balcony, but it was not loud and allowed us to converse in normal tones. Very comfortable bed

Port and Shore Excursions

Cozumel was beautiful and we wished we would not have booked an excursion through Carnival for this one. One tip--if you are looking for real Mexican cuisine--do NOT take the Isla Pasion excursion! The private island was absolutely beautiful...but the buffet---well if french fries, spaghetti and chicken tenders are your kind of Mexican then go for it...even the guacamole was sub-par. Drinks like beer and rum punch were free so if you go to drink and sunbathe then it is the place for you. We were looking for a little authenticity so we weren't thrilled with that--but the ride to and from the island was wonderful and it was absolutely beautiful!

we took the bus from the ship to progresso where we took a motor coach tour of Merida for $25.00 per person. We had a wonderful tour guide and this was an exceptional tour. Plus it was much cheaper than what you could get from the Carnival excursions. It was 3 hours and took us all around and then we stopped in Merida, say the cathedral and had time to shop and eat lunch. Ask your tour guide where he recommends for lunch...we did and were SO HAPPY...the food was excellent and the drinks...were...well...POTENT! Great tour and lots of history and information on culture. However--watch out for the vendors when you are in progresso--they won't take no for an answer and we found we almost had to be rude to get away from a couple. Not all were like that though and we had a great time talking with a couple of the vendors while we were waiting for the motor coach tour.
