IN March we had our 4th trip with Explorer out of Cape Liberty. It was as usual a very good trip. We celebrated our friends 50th wedding anniversary. The crew was undoubtedly the most friendly we have ever had and we made some of them our email friends as we love to hear from them as to where they have gone and were they are going.
Our Captain and his staff of engineers explained the inner workings of the ship and we were really impressed.
We took the Portifino restaurant tour and met head chef Patrick and his mother. The food preparation area was really interesting and the extra cost of $50. per person was well worth it as the complimentary autographed cookbook was a great souvenir.
Maria was there as well and she is just a beautiful person and my wife and the rest of our family just think she is wonderful and keep in touch with her regularly. The boys at our table for dinning were spectacular and we had a great time every night. Thanks Erkan.
Our bartender in the Solarium Patrick looked after all our needs with a smile and a story about his family.
Many others too many to mention made our trip as memorable as the last 3.
Now here is the kicker. We are going again in December 2011 for 12 nights and look forward to this one as well. This will make it 5 times in 2 years on the Explorer.
One of the negative things though is difficulty getting to the dock as there is so much traffic and the traffic lights, as you make the turn into the drive to the embarkation point, only allows 3-4 cars through at a time. This is really frustrating.
There are a few other negative points but all in all a great ship, and true she is showing her age but I understand that she is due for a refit shortly and we look forward to that as we will definitely sail on her again.
We cruise twice a year and find that this is really a great port to sail out of as it gives you 2 days at sea, before you get into really hot weather which we really love.Exciting going under the Verrazano bridge.
Even the staff on the phone re: Crown and Anchor information are exceptional.
Thanks to all we love you.
