The embarkation in Southampton was excellent & we were aboard within 20.mins. of arriving. We did arrive quite early about 12noon.
Great news we had been given complimentary upgrades of cabins. We booked inside & were upgraded to outside with restricted views.Made a huge difference I guess we will be booking outside cabins in future!
The "Stateroom" was great with all you need & Roberto looked after us extremely well throughout the cruise.
All the crew were first class with nothing too much trouble & that wonderful " Can do " attitude.
Food was excellent in every different outlet & service superb. The two speciality restaurants are well worth a visit & the "Porterhouse Steaks" amazing.......Just where do they buy their beef??
The entertainment in the Princess Theatre was very good albeit a little " sameish".
We did our own thing at each destination & managed very well without the need to be getting onto the tour bus at 7.00a.m.!Shuttle buses were provided to take you from the ship to the port entrance, often quite some distance. It used to included in your fare but now along with many other things is an "extra charge"! If you fancy sitting in the Al Fresco cafe outside the Casino in Monte Carlo three soft drinks & a beer was £27!!
My daughter only drinks soft drinks & the daily charge option for bottomless pop is great value.
Unfortunately on the days at sea we found an inadequate supply of sunbeds. This is only made worse by the selfish brigade who place books etc. onto the beds & the don't use them for hours.I have to say that I was lees than happy to see my wife laying on the deck rather than a comfortable bed.The Deck staff were sympathetic but were unable to help.......It's a common problem apparently??
Whilst we understand the desire of the ship's photographers to capture your every move it can become a little intrusive. At $25 per photo. it's not surprising that they throw away thousands of unwanted pictures at the end of the cruise! Why not reduce the price to a sensible profit level & sell so many more?
All things considered a great holiday cruise. Grand Princess is a beautiful ship but at times very crowded resulting in queues.Cruising today has also become very " commercial" with key focus on extra spend. Many items that were included 15 years ago are now extras.
