We are a party of 9, all ages, 3 balcony cabins and 1 Celebrity suite.

Realised 1 case left at home, had some baby things in that could not be bought in Southampton, Port staff very helpful.

I case not delivered to Daughter's stateroom, it had been dropped into the sea whilst loading. Celebrity immediately took full liability, Washed / dry cleaned all clothes, agreed to fully compensate for anything damaged, Send a cheque in £ to home + $250 on board to buy toiletries + a massive on board $ + Spa credits + Champagne at dinner + + + loads of others.

1st day:

Air con in bedroom of suite not working

2nd. Day

Balcony had impromptu rainfall (due to pressure washing of balcony above) whilst I was having breakfast. I was soaked

3rd, day Air con fixed with a massive apology, wine, freebies etc

Celebrity gave a very very generous onboard credit without asking.

There were a few other hiccups including a Celebrity organised mini bus (with baby seat seat belt fixing) for a tour that we paid a lot extra for but did not have a properly functioning baby seat seatbelt, Celebrity have agreed to refund in full.

All in all, despite these issues, Celebrity are all about customer service and satisfaction.

The ship,

This is the second time we have been on The Eclipse. We booked last year for this as it is a superb ship,

Last year we had a Sky Suite (A name for a Junior suite, bedroom/lounge in one) these are about 100ft larger than a standard balcony room.

The Celebrity Suite has a bedroom, lounge and a large Balcony. (being on deck 10 you are in the sun as the overhang is 2 decks above) The lounge is a great meeting place for you before excursions or noisy board games, so you dont annoy other guests in the lounges, some lounges can be a bit quiet/ reserved at night.

Our Butler was superb. He couldn't do enough for us. He would answer his phone within a few seconds and he delivered teas/coffees within 2 minutes each time. breakfast would take just 15 minutes, cooked to perfection and he would set it out on the balcony. He served tea and canapes later in the day. Room service is very quick, especially at night, this is VERY rare for large ships. Night room service would take just 5 minutes to arrive. Cleaners we excellent and trustworthy.

Family had 3 balcony rooms on deck 8. All very happy with stateroom attendants and their room service

As mentioned before, it can be a bit reserved at night but mainly as some tours would start around 8 or 9 am next day, so people would retire around 11 or 12.

Many kids / teens on board, all very well behaved. All teens (we have 2) got on very well with each other.

Poolside crowded on hot sea days as was upper decks but plenty of other deck spaces away from pool. Solarium again busy on sea days but just enough space.

Food in main restaurant is to a very high standard with good choices for vegetarians. Speciality restaurants also exceptional. Muranos is worth the $35 extra. Qsine and Tuscan grill, not really worth $30 but if OK for a treat.

Persian garden (steam room & herbal Sauna + heated tiled beds) (An extra charge for most people) is very nice but not large enough on sea days. Celebrity Constellation has one twice the size.

Spa has some very good deals on port days. 55 minute massages on sea day at $130/140 go down to about $109. Some major port days (Such as Rome, when ship is deserted) they do 3 treatments lasting a total of 75 minutes for $119

The solarium serves a very healthy light lunch which is very popular and quite excellent.

Entertainment is so-so. shows are for the older generation (60s+). Comics/variety acts for 40/50 year olds.

Celebrity have nice touches like iced hand towels around the pool on hot sea days and also when you return from a tour. A variety of free cold drinks available 24/7.

Cabin review: Celebrity Suite

Celebrity Suite, not enough draws, walk in closet too small. Air con fauly but fixed. For some reason, as well as the sofa, they had one very very large chair in the lounge that didnt match!

Port and Shore Excursions

Very busy if more than one ship in port. If its your first port of call then its very good for shopping for things you forgot to pack

The shopping in the main street is superb. Without doubt best quality and value on the med. Prices in Portugal are about 20% less than Italy/spain/France etc. Lovely cafes on the main street and side roads.

Check out a Segway tour of Alfama that some cruises do. It is great.

Lisbon is unique amongst European tourist cities, very very few street vendors selling fake prada handbags and fake rayban sungasses for e25. Most street vendors are licensed and only sell arts and crafts.

If you like football, Benfica do a daily tour of Stadium. It is excellent, it includes lunch and you get the opportunity to fly their club Falcon in the stadium. If overnight, go to a match their or at Sporting Lisbon. They also have Belennses, who stadium, located near the port is small but very picturesque with a semi open roof with your seats facing the port

Very nice but DO NOT rely on taxis back to port, most have a siesta between 2 and 4 pm. be warned.

The port is where you dock. No shuttle bus required. They completed a major port renovation 2 years ago. Small shopping Mall next to the dock, main shops about 5 minute walk. Some cruise lines do a rafting trip near Vigo. Royal Caribbean & Celebrity use a very good, well organised company, English speaking, helmets, safety vests and full instructions. Instructor on board each raft which has 8 - 10 on board. Great fun, not too strenuous. Hardest part is carrying raft about 50 meters to the water! On our group, a couple of rafts did capsize but instructors had everyone back onboard in a minute. River has quite safe rapids with long stretches of very cool slow moving water to get people back onboard safely. Nice to swim in and cool off. Spectacular scenery. Not suitable for kids under about 18.
