Wow!!! What a ship!!!

Sail Date: July 2011
Destination: Eastern Caribbean
Embarkation: Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)

Our family, 16 of us, recently sailed on Oasis of the Seas. Unbelievabable ship! This is the third cruise that our mother has organized for the family. We had always sailed on Holland America. There is no comparison.

Oasis of the Seas is a floating city. Some of the ports that we visited paled in comparison to the ship. We hurried through our shore excursions wanting instead to be on the ship.

We were in a suite which is so worth the extra expense. The service is amazing. Our cabin steward was so attentive and helpful. In addition, Oasis has a fantastic concierge lounge for suite customers. We would always meet there before going to dinner. They had great menus for breakfast and lunch. Then, they had a buffet service and cocktails at 5:00. In fact, while we were waiting for our suites to be made available at the beginning of the cruise, we waited in the lounge. Not a bad way to wait! The waiters in this lounge were wonderful;very funny and personable.

The More restaurants on this ship are amazing. We especially liked Johnny Rockets (a small fee) and the Park Avenue restaurant (complimentary) where we had the most amazing roast beef sandwiches. In any lounge or restaurant we visited, we were treated so warmly. I don't know how the staff does it....they serve the thousands on that ship with smiles on their faces!

If you're a shopper (which I am not), you're in business. The ship has quite a few shops....I especially loved the Coach store. Bought a great purse there at a good price (tax free).

The shows were good. We especially liked the water show on the aft end of the ship. That was amazing---divers and synchronized swimming. The ABBA tribute show was really good...my husband especially loved that one. Hairspray was not the best---I'm just not into musical theater. But the shows are varied and well-done.

I do wish that our family was able to cruise during a time whereit wasn'tso hot in the tropics. Granted, we knew this would be a problem going in July. but it was so humid. But, the pool areas on the ship were fabulous to cool yourself off. Especially the adults only pool. That was wonderful!!! It's at the front of the ship, so on at-sea days, you had a wonderful breeze blowing over you. Very comfortable and nicely put-together. The pool was definitely not a lap pool, but who needed that? We just wanted to cool off.

We would definitely sail with Royal Caribbean again. They just know how to handle these large masses of people. Check-in was unbelievably fast---the staff on this ship was exemplary. The cabins were wonderful. Royal Caribbean has a couple of cruisers to add to its ranks with us!!! Less

Cabin review: Oasis of the Seas Grand Suite Deck 6 10254

We loved our cabin. We were mid-ship and fairly close to elevators. Lots of storage space under the beds for suitcases. We were thrilled!

Port and Shore Excursions

Hot, humid.....well, it was July after all. We took the excursion that took us through the resort's aquarium. In the heat and humidity, we were spent afterwards.

It was hot and humid, but this little village is a gem. Very clean with interesting shops. We found a fruit smoothie stand run by French women. Took a break and had a water and my husband had a smoothie that was made with fresh fruit. They also had a dog that was agreeable to be petted by a couple of dog-lonesome people. The dog's name was Shoo-shoo. Made our day!

What a grungy little village.....if you're in the market for jewelry, this place is for you. Otherwise, stay on the ship!
