Self, wife and 19 year old daughter picked the Eastern Med with Celebrity hoping for relaxation, good weather and a varied itinerary. We were delighted on all counts. Did a lot of research (always amazes me how many people leave everything to the last minute), booked mostly private tours via the CC Message Board and hence met some pleasant and interesting travelling companions. Stayed overnight in Rome (Hotel Sonya - basic but ok for one night) and shared a limo to Civitavecchia which was much more relaxing than the train would have been.

We have cruised with P&O on Ventura before and first impressions of the Equinox were good - brighter and a bit more interesting than Ventura. Cabins definitely a step up - we had been concerned about space for the 3 of us but no problems. Great bathroom and excellent TV system (daughter got through 10 free to view films during the trip). We didn't want Aqua or Concierge and were very happy with cabin 9270 which we had selected for its extra large balcony (on the starboard bump midships).

Service was great in all areas - really noticeable that virtually everyone took the trouble to say good morning or evening when you passed them, whether crew, cleaners, dining staff etc. Both waiting staff and cabin attendants were courteous, pleasant and helpful. Very impressed with highly visible level of cleaning and attention to hand washing on entering dining areas. We chose Select Dining but had the same table most of the time, so developed good rapport with waiters. Food good overall - a few disappointments and some thing lacking taste, but good enough to make us feel that we didn't want to book any speciality restaurants (menus for which didn't really inspire). My wife has some allergies so was given the following evening's menu every night so that she could request minor modifications, and also got a plate of vegetables cooked to her taste (she likes them well cooked!) every meal. After a comment to one of the Jamaican chefs about Caribbean cooking during a tour of the cooking areas I was treated to an excellent jerk chicken as a surprise the next night. Ocean View Cafe (buffet) was ok and we didn't have any problems with queues. We liked Cafe Bacio and used it a lot. We found that we got good value from our Classic Non Alcohol package and drank lots of sodas and fresh orange juice.

Cabin 1A

Cabin 9270 (Panorama Deck). Selected this after analysis on CC (great thread!). Very pleased with the choice - well situated midships close to lifts and stairs. No noise from card room. Extra large balcony was excellent. This cabin has pullman bed and sofa bed - we only used the latter as it was comfortable and more convenient.
