Ship Facts: Splendour of the Seas Review (by Cruise Critic!) | Splendour of the Seas Deck Plans
Will NEVER cruise with RCI again!!!
We have cruised before, with My Travel and Thomson - never had any issues with them.

This was our first cruise with RCI. Only booked it coz of the ports of call, not the cruise company. The ship itself is fantastic and so are the majority of the crew - the issue we had is with RCI themselves...

Our biggest complaint would be about the cost of drinks - $8 for a pint of lager, which included a 15% gratuity, cheapest bottle of wine? White Zinfandel - in Tesco £5, on this ship $31 plus 15% gratuity. They put a 15% gratuity on everything you purchase! RCI are a complete rip-off!! Why don't they do an all inclusive drinks package on all ships? We later found out that the 15% gratuity actually forms part of your server's wage... If they don't meet their target then all RCI pay them is $50 a month, I know they get free bed and board but....

We pre-paid our tips (£70 EACH!), thinking we'd get vouchers to tip who we wanted... Oh no, they are for the cabin cleaner and the head waiter, waiter and assistant waiter of the formal dining room (would they really get £140 in tips between the 4 of them? Doubt it) - we only went there 3 times coz the food was terrible, on the times we did go (coz we felt we should and the menu looked ok), the food was luke warm and not much of it - so why would we tip the waiters that we barely knew? Breakfast in there was just as bad. Obviously we gave them the vouchers as we had already paid for them. My advice, aside from don't cruise with RCI? Don't pre-pay the tips and when you get onboard, go straight to the pursers desk and tell them to the remove the daily tip charges for all people in your cabin - they will add a daily charge of $11.25 pp if you haven't prepaid tips. If you do this, at least then you can tip who you want and how much you want - lessons learned there for us. If we had known we could do this, then we would have done.

We ate mainly in the Windjammer Restaurant where food varied every day and was hot - breakfast was great in there too! It's buffet style for breakfast and dinner but that didn't bother us.

The shower wasn't great - no water pressure and a shower curtain 3 inches too short, so the bathroom flooded every night. Other than that the room was great and our cleaner, Ron, was brill - used to make us animals out of towels...

If this had been our first cruise, it would probably put us off doing another one. We have one booked for later this year - not with RCI!!
