I was so excited to embark on my Alaska adventure with my 10 year old son. We had spent a few days in Seattle prior to the trip, so we were well rested and ready to go. My initial impression was good...the room was neat and clean and the staff seemed friendly. My initial issue with the ship is the food. It is mediocre and the menu descriptions are inaccurate. One of my table mates ordered a veggie burger and it was literally a "veggie burger"; mashed up vegetables made into a patty and put on a bun. It fell apart and she couldn't eat it. I ordered the brunswick stew. Now I'm a southern girl and I know what brunswick stew should be. This was a chicken broth with pieces of chicken and english peas and a piece of sweet cornbread on top. Definitely not a stew and not very tasty. The buffet food was forgettable as well. On day 5 of the trip, I became violently ill and was told I had the noro virus. I was quarantined to my room for the remainder of the cruise. As I was traveling with my 10 year old, I had no one to assist me and the ship really could have cared less. I made arrangements via phone for the kid's club to allow him to come and go alone(the one bright spot...the kid's club. Friendly staff, great activities, easy to deal with. It's the best staff I've seen on any cruise line.) The ship's nurse checked on me via phone at 6:30 a.m. and I didn't hear another word from anyone until 5:00 p.m. The room service "special menu" for those who might be sick is abysmal. I ended up sending my son to fetch sprite/water/toast and bring it back to the room. The ship did send someone to sanitize my room a couple of times a day to prevent others from getting sick. Although I was in bed, clearly very sick and unable to get up, these people offered no assistance either. I have cruised Carnival, Disney and Norwegian and I would definitely recommend any of those over this Princess cruise. Princess should definitely review their policy for handling people who through no fault of their own, have their vacation interrupted due to illness.
