Carnival Conquest July 3-10

Sail Date: July 2011
Destination: Western Caribbean
Embarkation: Galveston

We were aboard the Carnival Conquest July 3-10, 2011. We had a great time on this cruise itinerary and would recommend it.

Embarkation - We parked at Lighthouse Parking. I was impressed by how quickly our luggage was loaded onto the bus. We were driven to the port area in about 5 minutes. The check in process was very well organized. We were on the ship by noon. The buffet on the Lido deck was open and we found a place to sit. Our rooms were ready around 1:30. Our luggage arrived at our door by 2:00. The safety drill was extremely unorganized. We were on the back row with 3 rows in front of us. It was very hot and we couldn't see the staff demonstrations of how to use the lifejacket. I think improvement is needed during this drill.

Ship - The ship is very easy to get around on. We were on the Empress Deck mid-ship. The Conquest is decorated with a France theme.

Staff - The staff was friendly and helpful. Our room steward was very good. We really enjoyed our More towel animals each night.

Dining - We signed up for anytime dining. I enjoyed the flexibility of dining when my scheduled allowed. We only had to wait one night on the first formal night. One night we ate at the steakhouse. The food was very good and the service was outstanding.

Ports and excursions: Jamaica- We signed up online for JamaicaForADay. This is an all inclusive beach day at Sunset Beach. There are many things to do there. We spent some time at the water park in the lazy river. Then we enjoyed a wonderful buffet lunch. The rest of the afternoon was spent in a pool with a swim up bar. The bartenders were very good and made some interesting cocktails for us.

Grand Cayman - We booked Rays, Reef, and Rum Point Beach through Native Choice. I would highly recommend this excursion. The guides gave us pointers on how to handle the stingrays. They also took photos with underwater cameras that were available for purchase. We went snorkeling for about 30 minutes after the stingrays. They took our lunch order on the boat and called it in. When we arrived at Rum Point Beach our lunches were waiting for us. We spent about 1 hour at the beach. It was gorgeous! On the way back to the pier our guide took a dive and came up with a starfish for us to look at.

Cozumel - We didn't do an excursion at this port. We went shopping and enjoyed a Mexican lunch with margaritas.

Entertainment - This was the weakest part of our cruise. There were very few shows offered. We enjoyed the comedy shows.

Debarkation - We took our own luggage off the ship. We went through customs very quickly. Lighthouse Parking was waiting for us and we were back to our car quickly.

Summary - We had a great time on this cruise. We are planning another cruise in 2012 on the Magic. Less
