Wheelchair was waiting at pier in Tampa when we drove up. Unloaded bags and left Bff with the wchr attendant while I parked at Tampa port garage across the street ( 98 dollars for 7 days).I walked back and proceeded through embarkation . I am Platinum status so breezed through and with my friend in a wchr we got priority boarding too and went directly to cabin 8188 ( Balcony port side midship)and avoided crowds in Lido buffet waiting for their rooms!. The cabin was 9 foot wide by 20 foot long and the balcony was 4ft 2 in by 9. The bathroom was 3 foot 6inches by 6 foot with a shower ( no tub). The Air Conditioning was not cold enough so I adjusted thermostat and hoped for the best. I travel with portable fans as well as a power strip always just in case and sure needed them this trip as , despite an A/C repair, our cabin never really got cooler then 76 degrees! Our baggage arrived just before sailing and I got everything put away as plenty of closet, shelf, drawer, and cupboard space in this cabin. Previously, I had gone down to the Maitre D in the Truffles dining room to verify that we were given a private table for 2 at 1st sitting (6 PM) and this was verified!

As this was our 3rd time on this vessel we felt right at home and stayed in our cabin most of the time. We enjoyed room service breakfasts and lunches most of the time as my companion has limited mobility. We did make it to the dining room every evening for 1st sitting dinner. Lots of families with children ( and crying babies) as this is a typical summer sailing. No dress up required anymore on Carnival except for 2 Formal nights and even then only long slacks and collared shirt required for gentlemen. This makes so much sense since it is so hot and humid in the Caribbean during the summer and airlines charge for luggage now. I know some people enjoy dressing up ( and I used to) but now it just seems like "putting on airs" so I appreciate the relaxed standards on this and other lines. You also have to remember that you will never see these people again in your life and as long as your clothes are clean and your table etiquette is decent why worry about it! We had a great service team in the dining room and after they learned our needs the first night everything always went smoothly. Food was varied and very good. Honestly, people who complain about Carnival or any other cruise lines food really need to be specific about what they did not like as , after 91 cruises, I can say Ive never had a truly bad meal onboard any ship ( even during a hurricane). There are so many choices on the dining room menus and so many varied foods at the many different buffet stations that you can always find something enjoyable to munch on. Room service choices too were more than adequate and really were a God-send as my friend preferred staying in the cabin most of time.

As we have been to these ports many times before I only went ashore at Belize to purchase medications at the pharmacy on the pier without a prescription. We did not go to the shows or sit in the sun at the pools either. Our balcony was just fine for relaxation in the sea air.

Balcony

Cabin 8F

cabin 8188, an outside balcony with a private balcony was comfortable. as we were directly under the lido buffet there was occasional noise from chairs being moved during mealtimes or for cleaning. air conditioning never was truly fixed to our satisfaction as we tend to like our living quarters on the cool sides, especially in the summer caribbean heat
