We are a family of four 2 adults and 2 children age 15 and 8. We left Venice and went on a Eastern Mediterranean cruise on the Norwegian Jade. I don't have any comments on how to get to Venice or information about hotels because we're military and are stationed near Venice for the next 3 years.
The ship is a nice size and our room was at mid ship so we were close to everything. The decor was also really nice.
The ship offered non-stop activities for every age and the daily shows were great.
Service was great and the crew was very nice and helpful also everybody spoke English.
We went ashore in Dubrovnik, Athens, Izmir and Split. We loved all the locations though I think a sailing earlier in the year would be better because all the locations were extremely hot already in June.
We didn't take any of the excursions offered by the ship because for a family of four and our 15 year old counting as an adult it was simply to expensive. We took the local buses and at one location a taxi and it was just fine and much cheaper. Though make sure that your taxi driver actually speaks English because our driver in Izmir didn't at all. Thankfully I speak German and he did a little bit as well. The problem is that the people that approach you at the port are not the drivers but representatives of the taxi companies.
We had a stateroom with balcony and it was an OK size because you don't want to be in the room for most of the day anyways but I was glad to have opted for a balcony because the views were incredible and it gave us a bit of privacy from the kids when we needed it.
Speaking of children it was a mess getting our 8 year old checked into the club every day. Not all of the childcare providers spoke English and long lines formed. The program was good and our son always had fun. The same goes for the teens even though most of them just hung out in groups on board. We received a great tip from someone on cruise critic and that was to make sure your teen doesn't miss the first activity because this is the time the groups form and you'll never see these teens in the teen club again...
All in all we loved our experience with Norwegian and we're looking forward to our next cruise.
