Food was mostly 2nd rate. Limited & repetitious Buffet for both breakfast & lunch. Supper as well did not live up to expectations. Lobster tail was the smallest we’ve ever had on any ship while the roast beef was thin & unremarkable. Attitude taken by management was that if you don’t like the food, you can always go to a “paying” restaurant of which there were not less than 8. We were left with impression that food quality was purposely lowered in the “free restaurants” in order to promote & increase revenue
Entertainment again was mostly unsatisfactory on 5 nights; the only 2 entertaining shows included Brenda the hypnotist & 2nd to last day providing a variety show.
Our cabin in comparison to other ships was small and could use refurbishing. We had a sewer smell for 2 days. Our complaint yielded the comment that it is normal when the sea is rough, causing swaying of the hull (1st time I heard this story)
Most people on our cruise including 1st time cruisers were underwhelmed by the unpleasant experience. We were told that the Jewel was under new management due to various passenger complaints. Regrettably our experience showed no improvement.
Attitude of Hugo, the hotel director was poor and not passenger oriented. His comment was that he was aware of negative Cruise Critic reviews but he was not about to change anything and he’s following corporate instructions.
