Sail Date: Jul 2011

We arrived early into Venice and lazily took a taxi to the port which cost us just short of 50 euros. We could have got the bus which would have been a fraction of the cost, but more of this later.

We were relieved to be able to board at 11.30, and the whole boarding process was very smooth. TIP 1. Cabins were not available until 1pm so take a carry-on bag with essentials, swim wear etc. and you can happily relax by the pool. The Windjammer buffet restaurant was also open, serving a range of good quality food in cafeteria style. TIP 2 check your mini bar - on day 2 we discovered previous occupants had sneakily put empty cans and bottles back in, which we got charged for (although we got the charge removed without hassle)

Thankfully the first night was casual, and here is TIP 3 do NOT bother packing anything semi-formal as there were only 2 styles of dress - casual and formal. There were 2 formal night and generally people made the effort but more in the style of cocktail/maxi frocks and lounge suits - a smattering of tuxedos. It was not as formal as our experience of P&O.
