Smooth Transatlantic Crossing - Adventure of the Seas
Embarkation: San Juan
Our objective in booking this cruise was to relax and visit ports that were new to us. This crossing took the southern route through the Caribbean, over to the Canary Islands and then north along the African coast. We found this route to be warmer and more conducive to enjoying outdoor activities such as the pools.
It's wonderful that RCL celebrates days that are special to their clientele. This cruise had a large % of Hispanics probably in part because it departed from San Juan. RCL included a Cinco de Mayo pool party that we enjoyed even though we are not Hispanic.
We highly recommend joining the Crown & Anchor Club. On this voyage, we were Emerald members which entitled us to an excellent reception.
We also attended the Meet & Mingle reception where we were able to meet in person fellow travelers that had been corresponding with us on line. The hors d'oeuvres and raffle prizes were excellent. Less

Cabin review: E16290 Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Balcony
Cabin 6290 has a great location. Mid-ship for a smooth ride; midway between dining and recreation areas. It's one floor up from the coffee shop which was great when we wanted to run down and bring back a cup of brew to get us started in the morning.Read All Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Balcony (E1) Reviews >>
Port and Shore Excursions
We took the Agaeta Valley Tour.
Participants should beware that although this tour is listed as moderate, there is a very steep goat path and several steep streets. This tour is moderate if you are in good health but I would consider it as strenuous for folks who are not accustomed to regular exercise. On our tour there were several participants who were not able to do the walking that was included. People with artificial knees, canes, foot surgery boots, overweight. The guide astutely arranged for cars to take them up/down the steep streets.
The RCL tour description also didn't do justice to the variety of scenery and information that this tour offered. The views of the natural rock formation called the Finger of God and the historic Red House were awesome. The garden of the Red House contained a wide variety of desert and tropic plants. Then the tour was capped with a visit to a family owned vineyard.
This was by far the best tour of the entire cruise for us.
The guide rearranged the order of the tour in hopes that we would have a view La Graciosa but the foggy weather did not cooperate.
We were once again impressed by how well maintained the roads are in the Canary Islands.
In Margot, we chose to visit the hilltop Fort instead of shopping. Our heart pounding climb was rewarded with excellent views or the harbor and town.
We had considered the Mountain Biking tour but later found out that it had been cancelled. It's always go to have an alternate tour in mind should your first choice be cancelled.
There is a snack included but it was at 9:30a, shortly after breakfast, and a long time before our return to the ship at 1p. It would have been helpful to know this ahead of time so that snacks could have been brought along, if desired.
