We just returned from nine days on the Explorer, left from Bayonne which was super convenient--walked right on and off. Self check-out was amazing, too!
I can't say enough great things about the staff--yes, all of them--on this ship. From the Captain to the Room Steward it was amazing the attention to detail and the ability of all staff to be attentive, yet not intrusive.
Our dining room staff--shout out to Robert and Alen!--was outstanding. They were able to accommodate special needs of our table mates easily and remembered particular preferences without reminders. Again, attentive but not intrusive!
We witnessed an amazing rescue at sea when a staff member needed to be evacuated to a hospital in Puerto Rico for emergency surgery--it was even video taped (or at least some of it was) for viewing on your TV. It was amazing to see how the staff responded in such a professional manner, with consideration for the patient and his privacy.
We took two excursions--St. John Eco Hike and Beach and St. Martin Kayak and Snorkel Adventure--both were terrific and we encourage you to consider both. Sadly our much anticipated Mountain Bike/Beach excursion on Water Island, off St. Thomas, was cancelled-maybe other ship mates were taken aback by the description of an uphill bike trip!
The Cruise Director--Jimmy Rhodes--and Activities Mgr--Jocenta--do a daily "Morning Show" (taped night before!) entitled "How U Cruising?!" which I have never seen on a cruise before and we totally enjoyed! It was a fun way to get updated on what was going on and hear shout outs from fellow cruisers. Jimmy and his team are SO high energy, they set a great tone for the cruise--you will NOT be disappointed!
