Traveled with children

Let me admit that this is my first Carnival cruise, I have taken five other cruises with different Royal Caribbean ships. I have traveled every time with my children, who are now 16 & 14. I have always loved every cruise taken. Some have been with windows, some with the interior rooms. This time I traveled in the adjoining room M171/M167 with my boyfriend and my children. Leaving out of Jacksonville FL was very easy, we were on board within an hour, no problems. The rooms were what we expected and enjoyed having the connecting rooms. The muster drill took a very long time...approx 30 min and we had to be in the heat outside with no breeze, so it was quite uncomfortable. I noticed that the buffet and the main dining room served exactly the same food items, so the only reason to go to the buffet (Lido) deck is if you didn't want to dress nice. We had the dine at your own time seating and really enjoyed that. Half Moon Cay was great, just what we expected and the food was average BBQ, but still good.

Nassau we decided to go shopping, eating and the beach. Halfway through the day my boyfriend hurt his foot after jumping and ended up going back to the ship. He had to be brought on in a wheelchair, and they took him straight to see the Dr. The first thing the Dr asked was "did it happen on board" and "did it happen at one of our excursions"...both no...after that it was all about how much it will cost for him to look at your foot. My boyfriend got very angry with the way he was treated and asked to leave and go to the room. He spent the next 1 1/2 days inside the room. (since getting home he is now in a cast -the heel and toe were broken) I was upset about the lack of concern after they knew he was hurt. They never offered any ice / or Motrin to help the swelling. I didn't expect free services, but they didn't offer any other choices of help. The only person that truly helped us was the room Stewart who found a large bucket for the foot to fit in so we could ice it down. I had ask for a special request and get a wheelchair to be delivered to the room so we could make it off the ship, because they expected us to get him from deck 5 to deck 9 to get a ride in a wheelchair...yet he could barely make to his restroom. Overall I would not travel Carnival again. The food was not that great, and the lack of help was terrible. Nothing like being away from your home, stuck on a ship, and having no way of treating your swollen foot.

If you have food allergies be careful. A member of my group is allergic to shellfish. We got pizza from the Lido Deck, regular mushroom and olives, and after eating it, they had a reaction. We figured that person handling the pizza had touched the shrimp in the deli next to the pizza area. Those employees are obviously not trained in how cross contamination can happen.
