Not Impressed

Sail Date: June 2011
Destination: Bahamas
Embarkation: Miami

We just got back from a 5 day, 4 night cruise on the Majesty of the Seas out of Miami. My husband and I cruised together and this would be our 6th cruise. Our last cruise, our hands down favorite, was the Carnival Destiny last September out of Miami so we thought another short cruise would be just what the doctor ordered but we were mistaken.

First, Royal Carribean has the embarkation & debarkation process down to a science. Each process took 30-40 minutes tops. Royal still uses real people for check-in which expedites things immensely where Carnival has the self serve kiosks which take forever.

Once on-board we had lunch at the windammer. Nothing special here. Hot food was never hot and cold food was never cold. The salad bar was enemic and the salad dressing signs were always mixed up so hopefully you can identify your favorite on sight. Carving meats were tough and unlike Carnival you cannot just get a hamburger, hotdog, french fries, chicken tenders etc. More because they are only offered for a cost at Johnny Rockets. Desserts were pretty but tasted terrible. Overall pretty disappointing.

Our room was a guaranteed oceanview on deck 3. Be prepared this ship is older and the rooms are small. The bathroom was laughable and there is no human on this earth who could possibly take a shower without the shower curtain sticking to them throughout. The shower is just that tiny! On 5 other cruises I have never been a room so small. Our room steward, Carlton, was great and took care of us so we tipped him extra.

Activities were lame. There was a amateurish crew dance on the pool deck on the first day which set the stage for the rest of the week. The cruise director was dry and could not even make the love and marriage show funny. Some activities such as bingo would be listed in the cruise compass and never happen. We would arrive for a scheduled activity to the company of others wandering around aimlessly because it appeared to be cancelled without notice.

While some may think of Carnival as a party boat, this ship was a snoozer. Less
