Carnival Glory - Western Caribbean

Sail Date: December 2004
Destination: Western Caribbean
Embarkation: Port Canaveral

We just came off of the Glory this past week and I would like to report on it. We sailed on 1/1/05 for one week to the Western itinerary. It was my husband, myself and seven year old daughter. This is our third cruise and our second with Carnival.

Let me just say, it keeps getting better. We started off with an RCI cruise and loved it. We were hesitant to take Carnival because of it reputation in the past but we decided to try. We loved it!.

This particular cruise was just great. We arrived at the port at 12:45 and were on the boat by 1:15. We chose ocean front guarantee and ended up with a ocean front family room on the Spa deck (11th floor). We loved it! It was a pretty much a standard ocean view room but the window was floor to ceiling. We were also just a few steps from Camp Carnival (real convenient for us). The view was remarkable.

The food on this cruise was great in the dining room. We enjoyed every meal. The food in the Red Sail was pretty good. More The dining room food made up for the marginal Red Sail. The Oriental, deli and Fish N' Chips were pretty good too. As always, my daughter enjoyed the pizza and burgers.

Our ports were great. Key West was fun. A beautiful place but all we did was walk around the shops and saw Hemingway's home.

Belize was not quite what we expected. The boat tender in was a little rough. We took an excursion to Altun Ha ruins. It was pretty interesting. Our daughter enjoyed climbing the ruins. Try the Beliken beer if you get hot. The deals were not so great in Belize. A little pricey. Do not venture beyond the gates. We were told it is not safe.

Our next port was Cozumel. We have been there before and love it more each time. This time we rented a convertible from Hertz and drove around the island. What a great experience! The other side of the island is breathtaking. We finally stopped at Mr. Sancho's not far from the port and our daughter swam. You can eat and shop there too.

The final port was Progresso. I had read many marginal reports about Progresso and was not expecting too much. We loved it! It is very authentic Mexico. The market area has the best deals on shirts and crafts. We just walked around and fell in love with it. We ate at St. Bonnets on the water. Best nachos in the world. You can sit and enjoy the ocean. Also, the pier is cool in Progresso.

Overall this was a great trip. The only complaint is that the crew on the boat did not seem as friendly as in the past. But the friendly ones made up for the not so friendly ones. Our daughter had a great time in Camp Carnival but again these counselors were not as friendly.

Our disembarkation was slow. We carried our luggage off and got frustrated when they started letting checked people go ahead of us (we were supposed go first). It still was not that bad.

I would highly recommend the Carnival Glory. Less
