Here is a summary of our cruise. We are a family of 5, with kids that are 9, 13 and 13. Our embarkation was probably one of the easiest we have ever done. We left the Hotel Monaco, Seattle (great hotel) around 10:45 and were on the ship by 11:45/12ish. Our room was ready and our bags arrived by early afternoon. Lunch was being served in Horizon. Our summary of Princess Cruise line:Kids program for ages 7-9 was great. They did crafts, made t-shirts, made bracelets, had ice cream sundaes, did dinner one night, played games etc.Teens: not a lot for teens to do on the ship. They did have a teen program from 10Pm-3AM every night. They have a tennis court and ping pong but nothing else (with 300 kids on the ship, these were often occupied). My 13 year olds were pretty bored on ship days although they did play some video games in the teen center. They did have several pools that were heated so that was nice.Rooms were clean and our steward did a good job.Food was OK. At dinner, the meals were just OK although the selection was pretty good. Breakfast buffet was fine. Lunch buffet was not good, choices were somewhat strange. Pizza and burgers were good but at normal eating times the line was pretty long. Went to dining room for lunch one day and had good experience. We had anytime dining and ate at the Savoy most of the time. We had Jason and Jeffrey and they were awesome. We made reservations for all but one night. You can make reservations up to 3 days in advance. Non-alcoholic fruit drinks seemed to be watered down.Spa - although the services were good and the people friendly, they tried to sell product all the time. If you went for a massage - they tried to sell bath salts. If you went for a manicure - they tried to sell hand cream and facial moisturizers by showing how old you look in a mirror (I'm 36). My husband went for the scalp massage/shave and bought $135.00 worth of face moisturizers and shaving cream because they told him he was looking old and it could be prevented (he's 37). I went for the cellulite procedure then they tried to cell me $1300.00 in product. Anyway, got tired of them pushing product. Sea days - I thought the programming was geared towards and older generation. Things like bingo or lectures. Not very exciting. They did have Zumba which was good. They had ceramic painting but only had "fish" as an option to paint. They had plates and other things hanging on the cart but none for us to paint.Entertainment - the comedians were really good. The dance/musicals were mediocre.Ports - very nice:Ketchikan - we did the floatplane over Misty Fjords with Seawind Aviation - Steve did a great job and we really enjoyed it. We then shopped (it rained some but most sidewalks are covered). We also went to the lumberjack show. Although cheesy - we thoroughly enjoyed - good show.Tracy Arm - fabulous, very pretty, huge chunks of blue ice floating by. Note: you don't have to be up at 6:00 to enjoy - we did but could have slept in a little. Also, it is very cold while passing through.Juneau - we did Harv & Marv whale watching and had Captain Lewis - this was very nice - he did a great job. Saw tons of whales and weather was perfect.Skagway - rented car and drove to Emerald Lake. It was a lot smaller than I thought it would be. We stopped at Carcross and let the kids see the musher puppies, also stopped at the desert - kids loved this - they ran and let off energy. Saw 5 bears on this trip which was my personal favorite.Victoria - just shopped. Note: they give all change back in Canadian dollars which I found strange since when we were in the Yukon, they gave either or. Also, they push a bus ride at $8.50/person to get to the shopping area but we got a cab round trip for $17.00 for all 5 of us.Overview - all in all we had a nice cruise although Princess in my opinion is subpar to Royal Caribbean. Although there were some good servers on this cruise, the overall service was just OK. Examples: 1) At lunch, after going through crazy buffet, we asked for an extra plate, they told us we could go get it. 2) The first day they are pushing for you to buy these $50/person (plus tip) drink cards. Once you buy them their enthusiasm to serve the drink diminishes because they no longer get the tips from them. If you asked for a coke at lunch, it took several minutes to get and don't plan on refills. Alaska was great - would highly recommend. Look for a cruise with more port time though because 2-3 sea days is a bit much.
