Arrived in Venice on May 28th and embarkation went smoothly and quickly. Our cabin steward was the very best. He anticipated our every need. The balcony was large with 4 lounge chairs, but the room seemed small compared to other cruise lines in same category. The bathroom was a closet, hardly enough room to turn around in.
We had anytime dining and the first night set the mood for the rest of the trip. We were in the Da Vinci and the waiter tried to force us to buy wine. After telling him we didn't want wine with dinner for the 4Th time, he finally gave up. The rest of the meal he was very condescending and we ate the rest of the evening meals in the Michelangelo room. The food was "hit and miss" The Prime Rib was great, but most other nights is was just passable. We had to send several items back because they were either cold or just barely warm.
The service on the deck was for the most part very bad. Some waiters would avoid eye contact so they wouldn't have to More
wait on you. We ask one for coffee and he never came back.
The food in the Horizon and Caribe "cafeteria" was passable. If you got there late at night it was not edible. The wait staff tended to be arrogant The coffee was bad. The only good coffee you could get was from room service. The room service was good and prompt. The Ship's tours were very well organized. The tour director was very entertaining. Choose the tours carefully as they can be very exhausting. Some as long as 4 hours of walking. Three nights we were too tired to even go to dinner. We chose Princess because of the Ports and were not disappointed on that score. We will definitely go back to Celebrity for the service and the food. They have Princess beat "Hands Down". Less

It was hard to believe that Athens had just had the Olympics because the city was so dirty. The tour to the Acropolis was a nightmare. Thousands of people trying to go through one small gate. It was like a cattle call. After struggling to get in, the actual Acropolis was beautiful and worth the extreme effort to get up there. The food in Athens was wonderful. Most of the ships tours gave you very little time to shop!!
Istanbul was very clean and beautiful. The Churches and Mosques were breathtaking. Went to St Sophia and Blue Mosque. The Grand Bazaar was fun and great shopping. This is the only place we really had time to shop. The shop keepers did not hassle you at all and were very friendly. Another beautiful sail away!
This was my favorite tour. We went to Ephesus, an ancient city founded 3,000 year ago. Our tour guide was a biblical archaeologist and was wonderful!! He had actually worked at this site and was very knowledgeable and interesting. We saw the Roman Arena where St. Paul preached. I was just "blown away" by it all.
We took the Vatican, Sistine Chapel and Coliseum tour. The Coliseum was great. We had been there before, but it was a thrill to see it again. The tour to the Vatican was a different story. The tour guide walked too fast and talked too much. It was an absolute foot race to keep up with her. She actually got rude if someone asked her to repeat something because they were running to get to hear her. She kept saying you have to listen to me, like we were children. Very irritating. The Sistine Chapel was so crowded and a little noisy it was hard to get the full effect.
Beautiful City. Spent about and hour in St. Mark's square, drank wine, listened to live music and people watched. Did a little shopping and returned to the ship. The sail away was unforgettable. Beautiful music played as we sailed down the Grand Canal out to sea.
