May 22 Baltic sailing

Sail Date: May 2011
Destination: Baltic & Northern Europe
Embarkation: Amsterdam

Positives were we had fruit baskets refreshed daily & champagne on arrival. But the express embarkation was nonexistent & we waited in line with everyone else. The entire process seemed poorly run. At the end of the cruise disembarkation was very smooth - as promised.

Room steward was polite but there was no sense of urgency on getting our room cleaned in the morning. Unfortunately our room was right across the hall from the service entrance & the door slammed all thru the day & up until 10 p.m. We discussed getting it fixed with both our steward & the concierge but to no avail. It was not fixed during our 12 days.

The food service was okay & the food was very good overall with the exception of steak & prime rib which both was very disappointing, overcooked & grisley. The phone in our room didn't function correctly. If I wanted a wake up call I had to go down stairs to the desk since they would not pick up any calls.

The More entertainment was well received & talented singers/dancers. But the management of the ship seemed disjointed. The smells in the casino was so offending (sewage)I would not go to play the machines. The spa was nice - very pricey. We have sailed twice on the Infinity happily, but I would not go back on the Constellation. However, the ports of call were very good. If you choose to stop at St. Petersburg we used www.tour-petersburg.com with wonderful results. Tim was a great guide who I would recommend. Less

Cabin review: Celebrity Constellation 9177

Room 9177 was a concierge class. On this ship it meant a fruit basket but little else. We've had the same on the Celebrity Infinity & had greater service. This room was noisy due to a banging service door directly across the hall from our room. We asked that the door be repaired so that it would close slower & silently but for 12 days it was not fixed. Our room stewards did good work when they did come (but it was on their schedule & not necessarily ours). The shower had mildew places & the bed was not all that comfortable. We had thought that the "soliceized" upgrade to the boat would be fabulous but were told that pretty much the bed ruffle was replaced. Our balcony had an overhang but other than that it was nice. But for the money - skip the concierge class on this ship & save your money with getting a balcony room.

Port and Shore Excursions

Helsinki is a lovely town with lots of history. Our tour also featured a 45 minute trip to Porvoo for shopping, then a lunch in the country in a converted barn - lovely lunch. Then return to Helsinki with a quick view of some city sites along with a bit of free time to sightsee in downtown on our own.

In St. Petersburg we used Tailored Tours of St. Petersburg. Tim's e-mail address is timkruglikov@rambler.ru & his web site is www.tour-petersburg.com. We highly recommend him. He specializes in small groups. Our group had 8 people & we all enjoyed our 2 days in St. Petersburg immensley.
