Fantastic cruise on Grandeur of the Seas

Sail Date: May 2011
Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean
Embarkation: Other

Just returned from our first ever cruise on The Royal Carribean, Grandeur of the Seas. We thought the ship was lovely, just the right size, nicer than I expected after reading some reviews on trip advisor.

There were plenty of activities provided on the ship in fact we didn't have time to participate in them all as we were off the ship for 4 days.

The service was exceptional in all areas, particularly in the main dining hall where we had a fantastic waiter, Amel.

Our 3 excursions were brilliant, when we booked initially we thought they were expensive but they were well worth the money.

Our transfer from the airport to the ship was excellent with an added extra stop at a beautiful castle in Majorca. The return trip was just as well organised although there was a big queue for check in which is to be expected.

Our stateroom although very small was designed very well with plenty of storage and made us realise you don't actually need a big More room.

Dining was excellent, plenty of places to get food whenever you wanted, from 6.00am to 2.00am. My son loved the fact he could get free ice cream whenever he wanted.

The childrens club looked good with plenty to do but my son never actually went.

The entertainment was good, in particular a Beatles tribute band. Less

Cabin review: Grandeur of the Seas Large Oceanview Stateroom Deck 2

On first seeing our cabin we thought it looked quite small but we were expecting it. As the week went on we realised we didn't need that much space after all. It was designed so well that there was plenty of storage. The bathroom looked very small but the shower was very good and I didn't get stuck to the shower curtain. Our son had a pull down bed above ours which I was a bit dubious about but it was fine. Put up by our attendant each night & taken down every morning. My son wasn't too impressed though, said it wasn't comfy. Didn't stop him sleeping though!

Port and Shore Excursions

We took a tender from the ship in Cannes which took us straight to a coach for our trip to Monaco. Drove through Cannes & Nice with an excellent guide who gave us lots of information on the way. We stopped in Monaco and had a guided tour with some free time to explore & eat. Then a public bus ride to Monte Carlo which was eventful! A small price to pay to see the Grand Prix stands & pits still in situe. Free time in Monte Carlo then back on the bus again back to the coach.

A welcome change today just walked off the ship and explored Palermo on our own. Got lost again due to a rubbish map and not very clear street signs. We did find everything we wanted to see in the end and various other sites. A tiring morning but saw lots of different parts of Palermo. Next time I would perhaps do a tour to ensure we saw the best bits and missed out the more unsavoury bits.

Another tender to the port of Citiveccio and another coach. Another tour guide giving us information on the way to Rome. Once in Rome we were taken to a beautiful square and left to our own devices for four hours. Managed to see most of the sites but found our map and street signs very confusing. Met up in the afternoon for a guided tour of the Forum & Colosseum. A brilliant but very tiring day.
