The ship: Although the Infinity is ready for a major refurbishment she looked remarkably fresh during this voyage. You really had to dig deep to see the wear and tear on her. Undoubtedly the biggest issue seen was the wooden deck chairs, nearly all of which had been poorly repaired. Celebrity should pay for a real carpenter. Dining room chairs were also often swaying. Other than that worn carpeting and such were about the only clues that this ship is in her teens. The crew: Have never seen such an obviously friendly crew anywhere! They should be commended. You could not go anywhere without good mornings and good evenings all accompanied by apparently real smiles! Our waiter and slave waiter at dining were a bit green at the beginning of the cruise but settled right in within a few days. The slave waiter lost his cool once early in the cruise, after his second error of the night burst out with "Jesus Christ!". He should be glad his boss didn't hear him or he'd be washing dishes again for the remainder of his contract. The only fault with the waiter was that he was trying way to hard to be perfect. The cabin crew was perfection personified. Food:Dining room: Dinner: Decades ago I decided that it was better to out to the best restaurant in a city as opposed to going three times to just a great restaurant. So fine dining has become an expectation. Infinity did not disappoint. Dishes were in general very, very good given he conditions (9000 meals per day) and the ingredients provided. Nice work! to the wait staff and kitchen staff. If I had to pick nits...one evening the New York steak was tougher than it should be. The dining room manager and one of the chefs stopped by our table one evening and other than that steak only two other items were even mentionable, the onion soup wasn't up to standards and one starter didn't please on person in our party of four. If anything Celebrity should improve the quality of ingredients purchased so items like turkey and beef ribs could be replaced with king crab and whole lobster tails. In today's economy good luck with that. Breakfast: Always outstanding in the dining room. Some slight differences in the daily menu would have been appreciated, but everything you normally want is available daily.Buffet: Normal, slightly upscale food, seemed to please the huge crowds (huge get it?) who never made it to the dining room. Way down from the quality of the dining room however. Lots of variety so a Sushi snack, etc. was always available. Ice cream at the Buffet was gourmet quality! Kudos!Embarkation, disembarkation: We did not make the rookie mistake of trying to board first or nearly so. We selected mid day on purpose. It seems like about a 30 minute line for normal passengers. Our Captains Club line was closer to 5 mint. Nice going Celebrity.Disembarkation: Showed up as requested at about 9:00 for the 9:30 call. We're released at 9:15 back at the garaged car in Seattle by 10:00. Again nice going Celebrity.Tours: We bought all our outings like whale watching upon arrival at he various ports. Lots of open space, no problems whatsoever and we saved a few bucks. On board shopping: In addition to the multitude of jewelry stores in every port, Infinity was hawking "YELLOW EMERALDS!" give me a break! Yellow Beryl has been around for years and is a relatively inexpensive mineral. Add to that an on board Botox Doctor and a Acupuncture Doctor and you really get the feeling that Celebrity is pretty desperate to make a buckOverall: BEST CRUISE TO DATE, Alaska was MAGNIFICENT!
