My family of 6 including 2 DD ages 3 & 7 and a set of grandparents took this cruise on May 15th. Prior to the cruise I came on this site to check out reviews almost daily. ;) So here are my observations that hopefully will help the other Disney Cruise obsessed.
Let me start off to say that unfortunately the food is as blah as most of the other reviewers have stated. It's not inedible just boring and bland, but is edible and we weren't left starving. Just don't expect any turkey bacon. Flo's Cafe was very good though and so was the pizza and fruits.
Our trip started out the night before the cruise by staying at the Radisson Hotel about 5 minutes away. The hotel could use a little TLC but over it is very nice and well worth it to have a stress free travel day especially because we were delayed by 4 hrs due to a storm in Orlando. HIGHLY recommend coming in the day before!!!
We also arrived at the port by 10 am. Had no lines to register and found a nice seat to relax before our # was called. A little hint if you are traveling with other people and they get a lower boarding # you can board with them. You also don't have to wait inline to register your kids for the kids club the line for that by 11 was INSAINE!!! Once we settled into our room we went down to the club with no line, registered, and explored the areas. It also helped that I had registered them online.
Unless you want the professionals to take pics of your kids with the Princesses go to the photo times where they tell you to bring your own camera. We also found them roaming around about 1/2 hr before the first seating of the formal evening. Also when you want to go to character signings just arrive about 10 - 15 minutes early.
Take advantage of the many boat offerings with the kids or put them in the kids club during peak hours. We had the late seating and found that if we went around 3:30 or 4:00 the pools were almost empty and hardly a line or no line at all for the Aqua Duck. We also stayed on the boat during the Nassau stop with no regrets. The only thing I do regret is not getting to Castaway Cay a little later. We left right after breakfast and there was only 3 chairs left by the slides. However by the time we were leaving around 2 there were a lot of chairs opening up. Another reason to take it easy in the morning and go to the island later in the afternoon.
If you've already or are going to book your room and want a bunk bed make sure you have it in writing. Because we were told that our room had a bunk bed but it didn't it just had a murphy bed. Which was fine my 7 y/o liked it but was just disappointed.
When you put the kids in the club and they want to do a specific program just make sure you physically take them to that program. Unless they are assertive enough to ask. Also we ran into the same problem my 7 y/o asked for us to be called and we never were so one of us just dropped by every hr or so to double check. We did feel safe with them in there and they always knew where they were.
The last observation I found was if you don't want to be "molested" by love bugs try not to go in the middle of May. It didn't effect us once we left port but if you want to go to the pools once you get on the boat then avoid this time.
Don't stress you should have a great time and we will do a Disney Cruise again and hopefully on the older ships the food is better. Hope this helps and happy sailing!
