My family and I cruised on the Star from 12/23-12/31. First, I have to say that this site was greatly beneficial to me in planning for our time on the ship. I felt as if I knew exactly where to go, what to book, etc. Going in armed with all this information probably put my fellow cruisers at a disadvantage when it came to booking reservations at the restaurants and spas, but such is life. Before I get into the details I would state that this was a generally positive experience. The ship is attractive enough on the inside, though the paint job on the outside is somewhat garish (and actually needs some touching up as some of its "stars" were peeling off). It is expansive with many rooms filled with all sorts of activities and its flow in terms of logic and traffic patterns makes sense. The onboard crew is very friendly and professional and it is very evident how hard they all work to make our trips as stress free and fun as possible. They are to be commended. Now the nitty gritty--

Embarkation: We were delayed by the previous cruise's awful disembarkation. We were told that the ship came in late and there were some mishaps. Quite frankly, I am sure that it was more of an annoyance to those leaving the ship than to those of us who were waiting to get on. Once it got under way (about 40 mins. late) it was a smooth process (of course, we were one of the first groups to board...along with disabled guests) and my cabin was the closest one to the spa. All of this made it easy to get right on the ship and have massage appointments booked for the week within the first 15 minutes (and most of the passengers hadn't even boarded).

Cabin: We were traveling with a party of 15 of my wife's family members. We, as a family of four, were fairly comfortable in a balcony suite on the 11th floor. Sure you'd like the room to be bigger, but it's a cruise for 8 days...you can deal with the small space. If you lived in Manhattan you'd be willing to pay $2500 per month for this space on a full time basis. It is well designed and there were lots of hidden features for storage. My wife would have redesigned the closet, but again, these are minor issues. The bathroom was pretty large and the shower was fantastic --Euro style with good water pressure and a steady supply of hot water.
