Love Cruising

Sail Date: April 2011
Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean
Embarkation: Southampton

Love cruising a few faults with Azura prefer the Oriana. I felt the staff just hadn't got it together.

Travel

Train from Darlington direct good service and on time. Plenty of taxis to the quay side no waiting .Embarkation a little slow we waited two hours to get on the ship but staff at Southampton were very helpful.

Cabin

Inside B340 deck 11 twin found it very small only enough room to walk between the bed and desk. Only one desk chair to sit on so had to sit on bed. Don't like the new style wardrobes it takes to much room out of the cabin and makes the cabin look very untidy.Shower room small but adequate kept very clean towels changed twice a day Beds and pillows very comfortable our cabin steward Manfred did a very good job

Shopping

A very good selection on board very good fair prices plenty of special offers duty free as good as on shore and you could buy alcohol to drink in the cabin . Spa service plenty of choice but I didnt use More them.

Entertainment

Very good something for every one quizzes films bingo bridge dance lessons and much more. The sail away parties were great fun plenty of football matches for the men in Brodies Bar . The Playhouse every night fantastic The Headliners put on seven wonderful shows and gave 100%each show. The casino staff were very helpful but the casino is to small for the size of the ship and the number of passengers not enough slot machines. A great day of entertainment and coverage of the Royal Wedding on board.

Shore Excursions

A very good wide variety of trips to choose from, good talks on the resorts on board plenty of information to help you make your mind up.Plenty of information and help for the independent traveler getting on and off the ship was very easy.

Food

This is where I was very disappointed with the cruise not up to P O standard Breakfast in Oriental restaurant good, buffet breakfast hot and cold very good choice

Lunch

Peninsular Restaurant good . buffet lunch salads ok Hot food very poor it tasted like food in a motorway service station

Afternoon Tea

Peninsular restaurant afternoon tea very poor Buffet good choice sandwiches and scones cakes seemed to be repeated every day.

Dinner

Oriental restaurant had a table for 10 very good company poor service and very slow. I only enjoyed three evening meals out of 16 Only one vegetable every night so if you didn't like it you did without.Verdict should have been much better head waiter said he was very sorry but had a lot of people to serve.

Final may not travel from Southampton again as there was to many wheelchairs and motorized scooters on board you couldn't get in the lifts Disembarkation we walked off very good and quick Less

Cabin review: Azura Inside Stateroom B Deck B340

Already made comment on my cabin inside twin beds deck 11 B340 very quite found it very small only enough room to walk between the beds and desk. Only one seat to sit on had to use the bed. Bedding and pillows very comfortable. Didn't like the new style wardrobes took to much room out of the cabin and it looked untidy. Shower room adequate but small kept very clean towels changed twice a day .Cabin steward Manfred did a very good job.

Port and Shore Excursions

Dubbrovnic the reason we chose the cruise we were not disappointed liked to have seen more walked the wall then through the Pile Gate wonderful streets very busy. Street musicians and dancers great street cafes and coffee bars churches and museums some good shops

Gibralter most people have been one long high street full of duty free shops a Next, small Marks and Spencer's, BHS and the usual souvenir shops food and coffee shops .

We had a very good day in Katakolan but we did not go to Olympia so cannot make a fair rating Enjoyed the shopping walk and lunch break

Venice what can I say we started the day with a early morning cruise down the Grand Canal on the ship something I never expected. The ship ran a shuttle boat to St Marks Square for 15 return well worth the fare. We once again did our own thing you don't have to spend a fortune on trips we had coffee just off the main square only 3 euro Then ST marks Square with all the street vendors with wonderful masks on sale .The Doges Palace well worth joining the ques to get in we did the tour and enjoyed it all the walk across the the bridge of sighs is a must .We managed to get in St Marks Basilica without a long wait as it was lunch time . Then a walk over the Rialto Bridge and a little shopping for a piece of Murano Glass and back to the ship worn out but a great day.
