HAL reimbursement totally inadequate

Sail Date: May 2011
Destination: Bermuda
Embarkation: New York (Manhattan)

My wife and I paid for a cabin with balcony expecting to be in port in Bermuda for 4 days. We were there for 3 days. The delay was not communicated to the passengers early enough to change our pre cruise travel to NYC. The day we spent in NYC was not our idea of a vacation. We are from beautiful western NY and usually avoid the City like a plague.

This was not an unforeseen delay on HAL's part. Neither weather nor circumstances beyond their control caused the delay. The $75.00 per person on board credit was not near equal to the cash they charged us for the day we missed in Bermuda.

We had no problem with the ship accommodations, food or wait staff. However, the information available to passengers by the administration was totally inadequate all along the way.

Bermuda is a beautiful destination and we recommend it to any travelers looking to relax in a very friendly and interesting fair weather port. Less

Cabin review: Veendam Verandah Suite Verandah 075

Very nice cabin with a generous balcony. It could easily accommodate 3 people comfortably.

Port and Shore Excursions

Hamilton is a great port for shopping, sightseeing and for easy access via ferry or bus to any other place on the island including beaches.

It is not as safe at night as it was the last visit we made 18 years ago.

One caution about docking on Front street in Hamilton - if your cabin is on the Front street side of the ship, there is a nightclub directly across from the port building that blares music until 3:00 AM every night at which time a couple of fights break out. Of course, you could always join in.

St George's is a beautiful, quaint fishing village type place with nice shops and eateries. International and locally made goods are available and high quality. I would rather not dock here because of the problem that HAL had with getting us from ship to shore. It is very easy and convenient to ferry from Hamilton. We decided to bus from St George's to Hamilton (our next port) and meet the ship there later in the evening for dinner, stopping along the way at the Botanical Gardens.
