We're married, ages 33 & 35. This was our 4th cruise, 2nd time on the CB, but our 1st cruise with just the two of us as we usually travel with a group of family & friends. We were really excited to finally cruise on our own and this trip didn't disappoint!Flights and transfers round trip were booked through Princess. We arrived in San Juan at 6 p.m. and were on the ship by 7. It was great to get on board and be able to go straight to our cabin - usually we arrive earlier in the afternoon and have to wait for the room. I was surprised that our luggage still didn't get to us until almost midnight; I assumed that because we arrived later with very few people on our transfer that we might get it sooner. Not a big deal...I was just anxious to unpack and get to bed after a long day of travelling! We had a mini-suite on dolphin deck, D502. This was our first time in a mini-suite and I think we've created a monster :) We've always had balcony rooms but it was wonderful to have the extra sitting area, and the full bathroom was a fabulous bonus, though I did feel like the ceiling in the shower/tub was a little low. I'm 5'4" and I could just extend my arm overhead before hitting the ceiling. Wasn't a big deal for me, but taller people would probably have to crouch down a bit! There was plenty of storage in the room and lots of hangers. Our room steward, Arnel, showed up shortly after we checked in and made sure we knew where to go for the muster drill and showed us where everything was in the room. We'd asked for bathrobes which weren't available the first night, but he delivered them the next morning and we made good use of them during the week. We loved having the extra space on the balcony (2 regular chairs, 2 reclining chairs, 1 table). I had been concerned about not having much privacy on the balcony since it was completely open to the decks above, but that wasn't an issue at all (I spent a few afternoons out there sunbathing and there wasn't a soul in sight). The only drawback to the open balcony was that there was absolutely no shelter out there when it's raining, like it was for sail away. Fortunately we had great weather for the rest of the week so we were able to enjoy the balcony whenever we wanted!Food was great, as expected! We did anytime dining and it was nice to have flexibility when we wanted to eat, though we actually ended up making a standing reservation for 7:30 every night at the same table since we loved our waiter so much on the first night. On all our other cruises our group has always done the early traditional seating, which I always felt was too early for my liking (6 pm), so having a 7:30 "reservation" was perfect for us. A few nights we arrived and our table wasn't quite ready, but that was fine - we just took one of the pagers and wandered off to the nearest bar for a drink. We were never hungry for breakfast (probably still full from the previous night's dinner!) so we always just ordered coffee from room service and enjoyed it on our balcony. Hot breakfasts weren't available through room service but you could get croissants, fruit, yogurt, juices, etc.We had most lunches in the buffet. I love the huge platters they have in there - great for mixing up a big salad (I tend to save my appetite for dinners, haha). Twice we did lunch in the traditional dining room, I think it was the Coral. One day we both just had burgers - hubby's burger came with blue cheese & he said it was awesome - and the second day we opted for pulled beef sandwiches with soup and salad; all were delicious. On our first sea day we went to the Crown Grill for the English pub lunch. We dined with a couple we met on board and we all enjoyed the fish and chips. Dinners were the star of our dining experience. We ate every night but one in the Island dining room. Our waiter, Edwin, was great and often served our meals while singing to us, which was cute. We both felt there was plenty to choose from and we definitely never left hungry. Highlights for us were the fettuccine alfredo (we shared the appetizer size - VERY rich!), the lobster, of course, and I must admit, I absolutely loved the meatloaf (and the mashed potatoes that came with it were so buttery and rich...I would've been happy with just a plate of them every night, lol).We ate at the Crown Grill on the second sea night. We started with sea scallops with foie gras and tiger shrimp, followed by entrees of rib eye steak and filet mignon. For side dishes we went with the red skin mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus (the only disappointment of the meal...it was more like boiled asparagus with butter...blech). For dessert we had the lemon meringue tart and the s'mores stack, both were amazing. We felt this restaurant was well worth the $25/person surcharge and wanted to go back but couldn't get a reservation at a time that we liked. The only show we attended was the comedy show featuring Rolling Jay Moore, and he was pretty damned funny. We tried to watch the Piano Man show but by the time we got there it was standing room only, and we could really feel the ship rocking that night so we bowed out and went to the cigar bar. We really didn't take advantage of most of the activities offered on the ship. We preferred to spend our free time sunning on our balcony (we found the pool areas were quite crowded on sea days) or napping in the afternoons...we were there to relax!Hubby attended wine tastings hosted by David, the ship's sommelier, on Wednesday & Saturday (Weds was more of an intro tasting & Saturday was more advanced wines; I think it was $9.50 on Weds & $25 on Sat) and he really enjoyed both of them. He also took advantage of one of the port day spa specials and had a hand/foot/scalp massage for $99 for an hour in the spa. There were five treatments to choose from - I think the others were some kind of facial and something involving collagen injections. He said his masseuse was really good and he enjoyed the experience. We had planned to attend a galley tour + cooking demonstration on Saturday - can't remember if there was a charge for that - but we slept too late and missed it...too bad as it sounded interesting. Several evenings after dinner we went to the cigar lounge so hubby could enjoy a cigar & cognac, though that probably doesn't really count as entertainment! Service in the cigar lounge was great and the waiters were really good for remembering what you liked to drink; cigars were pretty reasonably priced as well.PortsSt. Thomas - we went to Magen's Bay with a group of fellow Cruise Critic members. Transportation was arranged through Mr. James for $25 per person. We left the dock around 8:45 a.m. (there were about 25 of us - great group, we shared many laughs that morning!) From the ship, we headed up to Drake's point for some photos overlooking Magen's Bay, then headed down to the beach. It was $4 per person for entry to the beach. Chairs could be rented for $6 each, and if you took the chair back to the rental stand when you were finished, you got $5 back. Clean washroom & shower facilities are on-site, as well as a bar/restaurant and I believe there were one or two shops as well. The water was cool but it was okay once you got in. It was hilarious to watch the birds dive-bombing into the water to catch fish...they're not intimidated by people at all, so be alert! We were on the beach for about three hours, then went to another spot for photos overlooking both the Havensight & Crown Bay docks before heading downtown for an hour or so of shopping. Hubby and I hit up Mr. Tablecloth, then grabbed a drink before heading back to meet the rest of the group. It was a fantastic morning and I'm so glad we were able to meet some fellow CC'ers for this trip! Antigua - cabbed it to Valley Church Beach. We ended up meeting two other couples on the pier who were talking to a taxi driver about going to VCB, so we tagged along with them. It was $16/person round trip (you pay when the driver comes back to pick you up) but was worth a million times more than that. This was our second time in Antigua and both times I have been absolutely stunned by the beauty of their beaches (last time we did Dickenson's Bay which was also lovely, though much busier than this one). For $20 we rented two beach chairs and an umbrella, which came in handy later as it rained a little bit. The beach was just breathtaking - I still can't believe how beautiful the water was. The sand in the water was a little rocky underfoot in some places, but not a big deal. Washrooms & a bar/small restaurant are also on site. There were lots of vendors on the beach selling jewellery, hair braiding, etc. I bought a necklace and anklet from the first one who approached us, but they were all very cool and didn't bother you if you said you weren't interested. Bermuda - we did the ship's taxi tour excursion in the morning. I believe we paid $59 each since we booked it online before we left; I'm pretty sure it was going for $65 if you booked on the ship. It was a great tour - no more than 6 people per air conditioned taxi, and our tour guide, Earl, was very friendly and informative. This was our first time in Bermuda and it was a great way to see the island and learn more about the history. We stopped at Ft. Scaur, an old British fort (stunning views!), then went to Gibb's Hill Lighthouse and headed to downtown Hamilton for about an hour of shopping. From there we made two stops overlooking some of the most beautiful beaches I've ever seen, then headed back to the ship. The tour lasted about 3 hours and it was a fantastic introduction to the island. In the afternoon we browsed around the shops at the dockyard where the ship was docked. ots of stores, a craft market, and a few pubs/restaurants to explore. We stopped in at the Frog & Onion pub for beers (they brew their own and you get to keep your glasses as souvenirs) and then headed back to the ship. They also have a marine museum and a beach called Snorkel Park(I believe it's $5 to get in). Bermuda was really stunning and we're definitely hoping to return for a longer visit some day. DebarkationI used Saturday afternoon to get our packing done. Baggage had to be left outside your cabin by 11 pm at the latest, and they recommended having it out there before you went to dinner if possible. Debarkation itself was running a little late as I believe we docked in Brooklyn about 25 minutes behind schedule. We were supposed to gather in the Coral dining room for 8:15 a.m. and they were definitely running behind in getting the previous two colour groups off when we arrived. Once our colour group was called we were off the ship within 15 minutes and located our luggage very quickly. We passed through the security checkpoints in no time and were on our way (via Princess transfer bus) to La Guardia within a half hour. Unfortunately we weren't able to spend any time exploring NYC, but I feel like we got the mini tour by sailing past the Statue of Liberty (the Staten Island Ferry was conveniently passing by her at the same time as us - great photo op!) and we could see the Empire State Building beyond the Mahnatten skyline (fortunately for us, our neighbours were from NYC and pointed out the various boroughs, etc, as we sailed by). All in all, debarkation went pretty smoothly despite a bit of a delay.Random StuffWe really felt the motion of the ship in the dining room, which was strange since we were in pretty calm waters the entire trip (we noticed the motion a lot on our last CB trip as well). If you're at all sensitive to motion sickness, I'd recommend wearing sea bands or getting those patches you can wear behind your ears. We aren't prone to sea sickness but I could definitely feel myself swaying back and forth while we were eating (and I had a heck of a case of the spins for two days once we finally got home!)We brought our own shampoo & conditioner so I can't comment on the quality of what's provided in the cabins, but we forgot to bring soap so we had to use the Lotus Spa bar soap in the room. I was pleasantly surprised at the scent and at how moisturizing it was, especially since I have very sensitive skin. If you order room service in the mornings via the cards provided, be aware that they seem to deliver toward the earlier times indicated. We used the cards twice and checked off for delivery between 7-7:30. Both times I added my own note that delivery closer to 7:30 would be preferable...and both times we were awakened by a loud rap on the door at 7 a.m. sharp! If you drink a lot of water, you might want to grab a case at the duty free shop at the San Juan pier. We found the water in the machines in the buffet had an odd taste...nothing so much that you couldn't drink it, but there was definitely a weird taste to it. Water in the dining rooms was fine. You could also purchase bottled water when getting off the ship in ports; we paid $4.60 for two 500 mL bottles so it's definitely cheaper to bring your own (the 1L bottles provided in the room were $3.95 each).Keep an eye out for the "power hour specials" in the bars from 4-7 pm. They had 5 drinks available for $3.99 each - blue margaritas, pina coladas, mojitos, long island iced teas, and I forget the last one. Princess didn't provide us any envelopes at the end of the week for additional tips - seems you have to go to the purser's desk to get them now...just FYI if you plan to provide extra tips to your room steward, waiters, etc.If you think you'll cruise with Princess again, definitely look into the future cruise credit program. We bought FCC's for $100 each, which will also give us $50 each in on-board credits on our next cruise. They're good for 4 years and I'm pretty sure they're refundable if you don't use them, so you have everything to gain and nothing to lose. The FCC office is on deck 6 by the Crown Grill. You don't even have to meet with the FCC person - there's a form you can fill out and leave in a drop box and your confirmation letter will be sent to your cabin once it's processed.OVERALL...A fantastic cruise! This was our first vacation in recent memory where we've both come home feeling truly relaxed and rejuvenated. We loved all our ports, had a great time meeting people from Cruise Critic (and even a few who aren't on CC, lol), and just thoroughly enjoyed ourselves in general. Now we just have to pay off that damned bar bill and then we can start planning our next cruise ;)

Cabin Review

Cabin AA

Mini suite D502. Surprisingly quiet given how close we were to the elevators/stairs. Ample closet/drawer space; spacious room in general. Great full bathroom. Ceiling in the shower was a little low but having a full tub/shower made up for that! Balcony was lovely. Cabin was mid-ship so we never felt any rocking from the ocean at all.
