As in the past we arrived in Fort Lauderdale by air the day before the cruise. We booked our transfer and Hotel through Princess. We stayed at the Embassy
Suites on SE 17th Street near Port Everglades. The transfer and Hotel registration went smoothly. We were quite pleased with all aspects of the hotel including the complimentary breakfast. Being close to Port Everglades allowed us to see the Star Princess at her berth the day of departure.
Our transfer to the ship was also well handled by the professional Princess staff and getting to ship around lunch time allowed for smooth and quick boarding procedures. We particularly like the new procedures of not requiring to get out our credit cards and signing the document. This procedure sped up the boarding time. Having sailed on the Grand Princess and staying in the same cabin on the Star allowed us to proceed without any hitches to our cabin. The ship's staff however were there to show us the way if More necessary and all were polite.
We met our Cabin Stewart on arrival and he provided our immediate requirements. Throughout our cruise he was pleasant, quite professional and ensured our cabin was prepared each morning and evening.
The cabin was clean, quiet and well looked after. We thoroughly enjoyed the balcony and its privacy.
We selected traditional dining for 5:30 PM. We sat at a table for 6 and met two interesting couples who we enjoyed our evenings with each night. A great Group we became.
Our two waitresses carried out their duties in a professional manner and we were pleased throughout the cruise.
The food was great in all venues we tried. The variety & choices always allowed us to have a nice meal. Even had the Pub Lunch which is one of our favorites and that definitely met the standards. Using the Crown Grill was a nice touch.
As with all Princess cruises, the variety of activities available each day allowed you to keep busy or if you wanted to just relax by the pools or on your balcony.
Our favorite tradition is to enjoy a light continental breakfast (coffee, juice, fruit)on our balcony before sunrise. The Room Service staff came to know us quite well and they responded in a most enjoyable professional manner.
This was the first time we had seen the International Cafe and it was one of our favorite stops each morning as well.
All the staff on board were professional and never hesitated to help you or serve you. Everyone responded to your greeting even the deck crew when doing the ship's husbandry
Being a retired Naval officer I always looked forward to Capt Kent's nightly speeches and his details about leaving a port. We had sailed with him on the Royal Princess a year before and we sure looked forward to sailing with him again.
The entertainment on board was OK but not the best we have seen. We did enjoy the activities etc conducted in the Piazza. One of the highlights was the Culinary Display Event with the staff - quite humorous.
Overall the cruise was great.
As we were staying on board for another 10 day cruise we found the in transit procedures OK. Going to the terminal to see the Customs staff was too slow of a procedure but all the other preps were warranted and went quickly and smoothly.
Princess Cays - this was our first visit here and we were most impressed with all aspects - the ship organization, the facilities, the BBQ lunch and the beaches. I guess the only negative comment would be the cost of items in Tropical Treasures. Too expensive. Kiosks prices were reasonable. Less

Port and Shore Excursions
Still one of the most beautiful islands with its mountains. We still found the local vendors to be friendly and not aggressive. There were lots of local tour drivers etc available at a reasonable rate. No excursions done
The Star was a bit dim........
WE ARE TOTALLY ADDICTED!
