We had a great time on the Pride of America. We found the ship to be clean and well maintained. The staff were delightful and helpful at all times and most of the restaurants we tried served food of a high standard. Embarkation, all tours, coming and going from the ship and disembarkation were done very efficiently with only small fast moving queues - if any at all. Our Room:We booked a PH suite and thought it was worth the extra cost. The room was very large with walk in wardrobe/change room and generous bathroom. The balcony was family size with 2 lounge chairs plus a table with 4 chairs. We used the balcony a lot especially from mid-afternoon to dinner time as we often found the public areas of the ship a tad noisy. We chose a Starboard, forward cabin and were pleased with that choice. It was only in Kauai that the ship is docked on the Starboard side. The rest of the week we had nice quiet views from our balcony. The forward cabin was very quiet with none of the vibration we often felt at the rear of the ship. Any movement felt was the same all over the ship and it was not a problem in our forward cabin. Notable suite inclusions:1. VIP check in/out and champagne welcome - a great way to meet fellow cruisers.2. Champagne welcome bottle in cabin3. Captains cocktail party - another great way to meet fellow cruisers.4. Fabulous room with huge Balcony5. Lazy J's breakfast and Lunch - we love this especially at breakfast with the quiet atmosphere, a la carte menu plus a continental buffet.6. Taste snack 4.30 each after noon - Fruit, Cookies, Choc dipped Strawberries, Cheese platter, CanapEs, Brownies.7. Concierge - James - was always at breakfast and lunch and he would help us with any queries we had and suggestions with port activities.8. Butler - We did not use the butler and only saw him when he delivered our evening snacks and the iron. Restaurants we ate at:1. Jefferson's - On the first night of the cruise they served a smorgasbord of dishes from all the specialty restaurants or you could order from the main menu. We had the former and really enjoyed it. The food was of a high standard and wait staff friendly and helpful. The second time we ordered from the main menu and the food was delicious. Portion size - perfect for a 2-4 course dinner.2. East Meets West - very ordinary meal and wait staff, though friendly, seemed a little out of sorts on the night.3. Liberty Dining room - Very good - friendly and attentive wait staff. We only had a main course but our Steak and Salmon were done to perfection - perfect portion size and very tasty4. Teppanyaki - A tad disappointing - Chief was humorous and flicked the blades around - great fun. We are lovers of Japanese food and have dined in many in Australia and Japan and we have never had Teppanyaki cooked with butter nor have we had creamy mayonnaise type dipping sauces. I felt the true Japanese flavour was lost. The food was ok though and we enjoyed the atmosphere.5. Lazy J's - We ate here on the last night of the cruise and I had the best 5oz Fillet bEarnaise I have had for many, many years (I wish I had ordered the 10oz). My husband loved his Clam Chowder and Steak also.6. Aloha Buffet - I went one day at the noon opening time and made myself a lovely Caesar Salad from the salad bar. I enjoyed that but got out before the lunch time rush. The next time we tried to eat there it was very unpleasant. It was chaos with people everywhere, pushing, bumping and piling food 5" high on plates - as though it was their last meal - we left with only an ice-cream cone and vowed never to return. From what I could see the food looked good though and there was plenty variety to satisfy all tastes. Tours:Being our first cruise and with the emphasis on a restful holiday we only booked half day tours and by mid-afternoon you would find us on the balcony with a good book. 1. Maui - Iao Valley and Tropical Plantation ½ Day tour - Go Rabbit Go. Informative2. Lahaine on Your Own. NCL - A great day! Very hot weather but loved the town and the shopping. Lunch at Bubba Gump Shrimp Co - a must.3. Highlights of Hilo Go Rabbit Go - Just OK - not recommended4. Historical Kona- Go Rabbit Go - Informative5. Islands Best Luau (Smith Family) - Go Rabbit Go - Something you only need to do once but be prepared for a large numbers of people. The Kahlua Pig was very tasty and the show was nice.6. Tubbing Adventure - NCL - We loved this! There is nothing to fear apart from the unknown temperature of the water when you first get in - after that it is fun and laughs. I highly recommend this for all eligible ages. The positive thing about doing tours is that you are fed information about the area that you may not get if doing it on your own but if we had our time again we would put the time into the research and hire a car. From the tour buses you pass by many interesting places that you wish you could stop at.I would recommend this cruise to others and would definitely cruise with NCL again given a desired itinerary.
