This was our fourth cruise overall (in the past two years) and third with Princess. We had a wonderful time and cannot wait until the next cruise.Pre-cruise: We departed one day early (to avoid any airline problems) and had a room booked at the Renaissance Fort Lauderdale Cruise Port Hotel. Very nice hotel with a convenient location to the cruise port. Enjoyed the sun and pool in the afternoon and then had a nice Italian dinner that evening at Bravo (just across the parking lot). In the morning we took the shuttle from the hotel to the cruise port at 11:30am.Embarkation: As I have commented on before, Princess has this procedure down pat. From the time we unloaded our luggage from the shuttle until we were on board was no more than 10 - 15 minutes. We were able to go directly to our stateroom to drop off our carry-on luggage. Off to the buffet for lunch before starting to explore the ship. Coral Princess is a beautiful ship and we quickly realized that we were ready to be spoiled over the next 10 days.Cabin: Once again we had booked a mini-suite. This size stateroom along with the balcony suits us very well. Once we had finished our initial exploration of the ship, we returned to our stateroom. Within a few minutes, Rosalie, our cabin steward came by to introduce herself. Rosalie was great throughout the cruise. The room was always cleaned very well and our one small maintenance issue (a light) was looked after very efficiently. Our luggage showed up about 30 minutes later and we were all set to enjoy our cruise.Dining: Most breakfast meals were in the buffet. Good selection of food and overall the quality was good. Lunch was split between the buffet and the main dining room depending on when we returned to the ship. All of our dinners were in the main dining room. We booked anytime dining and generally ate between 7:30 - 8:00pm. Our longest wait for a table was about 15 minutes. Over the 10 days there was good variety in the menu with a different theme each evening along with some standard offerings. The quality of the food in the main dining room was excellent. During the 10 days, there was only one item which wasn't to my liking and I think this was due to personal taste on my part. Service was excellent from all of the waiters and their assistants. Ports of Call:Aruba: We had visited Aruba before so we did not book an excursion. We walked around the downtown area and did some shopping on our own.Cartagena: We booked the highlights tour which visited the old fortress and old town. Very interesting and well worth the money. Street vendors, although numerous left you alone once you said no thank-you.Panama Canal: Obviously, the highlight of the cruise. We were up early (5:00am) and the ship was in the outer bay. It was neat to sail by all the other ships waiting for their turn to enter the canal. By the time we got to the entrance to the canal, the sun was coming up so we could see everything well. Truly a fascinating experience to go through the locks and the canal. Once we reached Lake Gatun, we had booked the excursion in which you leave the ship and the board a smaller ferry to take you through the rest of the canal and the locks on the Pacific side. This was a great way to get a close up view of the canal and really appreciate what an engineering marvel the canal is. Mark one more off our bucket list.Limon, Costa Rico: We booked the Veragua rain forest excursion and this turned out to be a very interesting day. Very educational and a great thrill to take the gondola down to the floor of the rain forest to see the falls. Our guide for the day was very passionate about the rain forest and his enthusiasm made the day very enjoyable.Ochos Rios: Dunn's Falls and Shaw Gardens were the highlights of the tour and we're glad to have visited both. We found the street vendors to be very aggressive and annoying. They did not leave a good impression on us.Disembarkation: Right on our scheduled time. Found our luggage quickly and were through customs in about 15 minutes. Princess shuttle to the airport and we were home by 5:30 that evening.Overall impressions: In a relatively short period of time cruising has become our preferred vacation choice and Princess our preferred cruise line. We will cruise on other lines depending on the itinerary, but overall we enjoy the ambience of the Princess ships and the friendliness of their staff. We will always remember our cruise to the Panama Canal on the Coral Princess with fond memories.
