There were quite a few issues on the Zaandam that added up to our disappointment. The big view windows in Crows'Nest, Lido restaurant, Rotterdam DR, and around the Lido pool that were so dirty and salt encrusted that it was quite difficult to catch the grand views. The crew responsible for the cleaning of these windows should be ashamed. Certainly not up to usual HAL standards at all. Tile around Lido pool cracked and chipped and dirty. Floor in same area were stained. Although I noticed new carpets in some areas, carpeting in high traffic areas worn and stained. The textiles (drapes, bedding) frayed and very dated. The Lido restaurant was noticably disorganized at lunch and dinner. The breakfast shift had it all together, however. Quite a few areas for improvement here.
Food was good, and service up to usual high HAL standards.
Did we have a good time? For sure! And plan to sail with HAL in the future. In fact, we put a deposit down during this cruise for next fall sailing.
It seems as though poor Zaandam has not received her usual TLC lately. She needs a good refit and update.
